man it doesnt matter anymore if you are just using LIVE. If you want Logic go MAC, as well as Final Cut and various other things. But as far as simply using Live goes, and having access to a ton of really good freeware apps, check out
www.kvraudio.com
www.gersic.com/plugins
etc..
see how the ratio of PC to MAC aps goes, it's like 20:1 maybe even 30:1.
So many cool things for the PC, a few really good things for MAC but they are $$$$$, not much freeware.
As far a LIVE goes it's the same, except you can find a nice CORE 2 DUO PC for Cheaper.

Well, I have to agree with the other coments here, that if you are a Professional in the Real World, you DO need a mac!
If you can, spend the extra cash on a mac c2d so you can do what I said earlier...you can get both worlds and you won't go kicking yourself later when you realize you should have bought a mac. If you do go pc(meaning a windows only machine), virtualization to try to run os x won't do you any justice. If you get a mac and can afford to max out the ram, do it. I did it to mine and it flies, It was zippy with 1gb, but now the speed is insane.
I dont know man, bootcamp is still beta, isnt it? I would wait a year before doing that, see how it turns out. No apps suport it yet, why risk it?radialson wrote:If you can, spend the extra cash on a mac c2d so you can do what I said earlier...you can get both worlds and you won't go kicking yourself later when you realize you should have bought a mac. it's not about the number of anything it is about the quality of your software appsmotormouth wrote:man it doesnt matter anymore if you are just using LIVE. I have xp and OSX and have not found the need to run any XP plugs or the like I would if I needed to but I dont. I was surprised when I started with OSX I had heard that there wasnt alot of mac apps but every day I am finding more and they tend to be better coded than alot of Windows Apps so I dont miss the WIndows apps at all.. Some people need something very specific that only Windows has as I said I personally havnt found this... yet. Giga studio is the only thing I can think of that I might use but if I needed it I would simple run XP on some external boxes and run OSX as the master system.
The idea again that because there is more of anything means it is better is not necessarily true.
Infact think about it.. if there is 90 times more Windows systems than others OS's shouldnt there be 90 times more apps..
Now where is my pirates disk ?

I know shit about audio.
In ten years of learning about it, I'll still know only a fraction of what there is to know. Hear what there is to be heard.
You need 6000 posts to still care enough about the tutorials.
You think my post count is bad, go check a fan forum of a popgroup like atomic kitten. A link was once posted here..
Those people have over 50 000 posts in the same amount of time it took me to get to 5000.
btw.. 6000 posts of bullshit...
I got at least 500 threads in all the previous beta forums...
And this is the thanks i get
Anyway, threads like this always spark ideas...
How about a pack full of theater strings called "Shivering Timbres"

What do you mean, no apps support it? For all intents and purposes, a Mac running Windows via bootcamp IS a Windows PC (the only trickery goes in the very early phases of booting Windows). You might not be able to get tech support from the company you bought you software from, and Apple won't care if something blows up or you can't get Windows running, but that's quite different to it not working.ze2be wrote:I dont know man, bootcamp is still beta, isnt it? Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Ballmer blames pirates for poor Vista sales
Will crank up the WGA
By Nick Farrell: Monday 19 February 2007, 15:50

THE SHY and retiring, softly-spoken CEO of Microsoft, Steve "Sounds of Silence" Ballmer is blaming software pirates for Vista's poor sales.
Ballmer admitted to financial analysts that the predictions for Vista had proved 'overly optimistic' and he blamed the pirates in China, India, Brazil, Russia and other emerging markets.
He said his final solution would be to increase the intensity Windows Genuine Advantage as part of an effort to squeeze more revenue from developing nations.
Ballmer believes that one way Microsoft can bump up Windows sales is to tighten the screws on pirates. "Piracy reduction can be a source of Windows revenue growth, and I think we'll make some piracy improvements this year."
He said that there was software within Windows Genuine Advantage which could be dialled up by the Vole to make it even more tougher for the pirates to take out.
He promised that the Vole would "really ferret through how far we can dial it up, and what that means for customer experience and customer satisfaction".
Of course he is ignoring the fact that a lot of people are not buying Vista because it does not offer much more than XP and Windows Genuine Advantage makes their lives a misery. Cranking up WGA might backfire.

Heehee, I love the idea of using a Mac to backup a PC...shaneblyth wrote:Now an important piece of info for you if you want to trey Parallels Desktop.
I am assuming you have a current PC with Windows setup and running the way you like? If so Parallels desktop comes with a piece of software called Transporter. In 6 mouse clicks it will make a perfect reproduction of your PC and turn it into a Virtual Machine or VM as we know it. Copy it to the Mac (it's 2 files) and there you have everything on the Mac as it was on the PC. couldnt be easier.
A nice feature is you just backed up your PC totally. make a copy on a DVD of these 2 files (my 20gigs of data ended up as 4.5 gb in the VM) and you have access to a complete backup. Nice if your Windows setup gets screwed or you change something and want to go back.
