6.03 program change bug
6.03 program change bug
Why Why..
Live 6 will only fire a midi program change if the clip pg is different from the last sent pg and when the set is stopped.
This must be a stupid bug, dont remember 5 doing this.
Can you please fix this, im forced to go back to version 5 to perfom my show.
Thanks

Doesn't anyone else see this bug?
Ah heck maybe everyone one here are DJ's and not using midi automation
Seriously this is a major problem.
Here is how to reproduce it.
* Create a midi track
* Put a clip in it and set up a program change.
* Copy this clip to the scene below.
* Play the scene.
* Without stopping, fire the scene with the other clip in in.
(Program change is not resent)
Thanks

Unfortunately this is not a work around in my situation as I'm not necessarily firing scenes in any particular order.
Thanks anyway, I hope abes can fix this one up soon.

I found a workaround though.
On the first clip, set bank message to none.
On the next clip, send your program change with a bank message.
Next clip, set bank message back to none...
And so on..
Re: 6.03 program change bug
I'm not sure this is a bug... Why would Live send the PC again if it thinks the device it is sending to is already on that patch? Some synths tend to stumble over a PC, so why send it more than once?Live-Life wrote:Why Why..

Well maybe its not a bug, maybe its by design?
But then this is a problem because we should be able to tell live what we want it to do, not tell it then it decides what is best.
Here's an example where it is a problem and this is the case with me:
When I perform I have my whole show laid out in scenes
Each scene fires the backing tracks and sets my midi gear up with program changes.
Quite often I will use the same preset on a device for each scene, ie B4 pg001.
During playing I will change drawbars etc and change the sound.
When the next scene (song in my case) fires, I want my B4 to default back to the preset pg001, but Live wont send the program change message unless I stop live playing first.
This has cause quite a few embarrassing moments during a performance.
Thanks

Since I use Live to playback MIDI notes in a loop on my hardware, I would not want it retransmitting a program change if I selected a new loop which I intended to play on the same patch. This is because I may make filter changes or other manipulations that I would want to carry over to the next set of notes. I imagine I'm not alone in this. I wouldn't want live to assume I want to switch back to the preset state of my patch every time the loop restarted or the next loop for the same patch was selected.
If I were you, I would save a copy of the preset into another patch location. Then I would assign the second song to use the preset to look to the second preset.

I agree, and same for me, I do not want live to resend a pg when a clip loops.EddieJ wrote:Since I use Live to playback MIDI notes in a loop on my hardware, I would not want it retransmitting a program change if I selected a new loop which I intended to play on the same patch. But I want it to send whenever I fire a new clip if pg is enabled for that clip.
So in your case, for your next clip in the track that you dont want a pg change, well dont set it up to send a pg. Simple
Maybe its not that simple, maybe we need an option in the preferences.
To me, it just doesnt seem right that live wont send a message when I ask it to:(
