Under Windows..I usually go into the task manager & increase the "Live" thread to above normal. That usually does the trick, but you have to do that for every song change...even if you didn't close Live.

So...
a new update just came out!
Let's see if they fixed it... haven't seen the issue in the bug fixes list on kvr though...

I've tried SpeedSwitch, nothing changes - altough average CPU usage was lower, droputs were there.
But, yesterday I tried few more things:
1. Unninstaled ATI Control Panel (someone told me that it can have influence)
2. Disabled AV (as usual)
3. Installed prio.exe, and gave the Ableton realtime priority

and everything was perfect! CPU usage was 20-50%, and no droputs whatsoever.

i've had a similar problem as well w/ snaps, pops, skipping, & weird "delay" type stuff happening. I'm using a first generation Samson CO1U USB condenser mic which could be the problem, but I'm not sure.

I've adjusted the latentcy from high to low & in between w/ no dice. It only happens while recording from the mic (not while rendering or using plugins).

We record rehearsal 3 times a week & it seems to randomly happen on & off during the course of the recordings.

Powerbook 15 inch G4 1.5ghz
2 gb ram OSX 10.4.8
Live 6.0.5

Here's an audio sample to see if it's the same issue everone else is having.

Thanks!

Hi,

You should definitely try without the USB microphone. I remember their driver screwing up my sstem some time ago (there may be an update, and my system is a PC) - better to troubleshoot by not using external equipment, so if something causes the trouble you can find out.

Well I have been plagued with clicks and pops for months. I have just replaced the logic board in my Mac Book Pro and it seems to have eliminated the problem. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I really hope so.

I have the same, exact issue. Also, plug-in usage with Live seems extraordinarily high. I am with the user who uses Cubase...I just started using it and I get NO pops or clicks whatsoever, and CPU usage is neligable on plug-ins that would choke Live. I am running a brand new core 2 duo Toshiba with 2 gigs and an Emu 1616m. I had this same isuue running Live with my HP dv5000. It's a real shame, but I am seriously questioning Live's ability to cope. I love the program, but do not really trust it at this point. I will try the new update and see...seems I am not alone regarding this obvious problem!!!

For me, the problem is fixed since I installed the update. No more pops! Thanks ableton.

Clicks, Pops, Timing issues...

Post by scatizone1 » Tue Feb 27, 2007 10:58 pm

I am having similar problems with processor issues. When I instanciate 1 track with reFX's Nexus, it pretty much tosses timing out the window. I am running a G4 Dual 1Gb, and I know its a slower processor, but there should not be an issue with a VERY small session with 1 instance of this plug in. Anyone else have similar issues? Timing slows and speeds up, lags, hiccups, etc. Freezing is one workaround, but should not be necessary....

clicking at start of loops, even within full clips

Post by luxxury » Fri Mar 02, 2007 3:55 am

I'm pretty sure this is the same problem mentioned in this thread earlier albeit slightly different, so rather than start a new one I'm posting here first:

All my loops click! Even when I set loop points within the song itself, without fail there is a glitch/click/nasty sound at the beginning of the loop. Oddly, it there is often a click in the exact middle of the loop when it repeats. But, oddly, not every time! I cannot for the life of me figure out what the pattern is, other than it happens on every loop. I can play songs all the way through but loops - forget it. I suppose I could try drawing a volume curve or something but what a pain that would be.

I'm running 6.05 and it seems to have only started when I downloaded that version. These same loops were just fine on 5.22 and 6.03.

HOWEVER: I just had my laptop's hard drive replaced (at the SF Apple store genius bar) the day before I downloaded 6.0.5. I then reloaded the same music library from my backup Lacie drive to my new internal hard drive. It's unlikely that this would be the problem but not impossible, so I'm mentioning it in the interest of science.

One more strange bit of behaviour, again hard to tell if its related to my new hard drive or v 6.05:

I pulled up a session that I built before my hard drive was replaced. The session has about 50 mp3s loaded as clips, all of which are from my old hard drive (the file structure is the same so the session found them without any real problems).

When I run this session, I'm at around 40%-50% pretty consistently - not fantastic but manageable. However, when I try and add songs to the session, the new loops seem to add 20% more processing power. And if they're .wavs or .aifs, forget about it - it adds about 30-40%!

I've tried all sorts of combinations of "old" and "new" clips and it's consistent across the board. (BTW all the audio files live in the same place, which is my itunes music folder).

Isn't that odd??? Heartbreaking, even?

BTW:
1 Ghz G4 titanium powerbook
running 10.4.8
768 RAM

I'm DJing in 2 hours and am gonna play it much safer tonight than I'd hoped. I can't wait to have this fixed so future gigs can be more advernturous!

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

addendum to my last post - SOLVED IT, I'M AN IDIOT

Post by luxxury » Fri Mar 02, 2007 5:51 am

WAIT - NEVER MIND:

I just changed the clips from "complex" to "beats"
and that killed the clicking
AND i gained 20% in performance each time

for the record, this happened because i bought the 'ableton live 6 power' book and it suggested changing the preferences so clips launch with 'complex' for DJ sets because its the best setting for warping Mp3s. that may be true but i'm just happy not having the damn clicking!

anyway...hopefully my idiocy will save someone else from a headache someday.

and just in time for the gig, too!

(if anyone's in SF i'm djing at arrow bar tonight, check out myspace.com/luxxury for details)

Hi,

I was not aware af that advice given in this book. First, Complex Warp mode takes about 10% more CPU than other Warp modes, and while it may give better results on certain material, it is not always the case: I've personnaly got better results on some 'techno' tracks using beats. Complex was simply susking the bumping effect of the rhythm. So, better to experiment on a per track basis, and avoid Complex Warp mode if you've got a slower machine.

Makes sense. Also, to be fair, the book does allude to the increase in system resources in complex mode. I've been using 'beats' mode for my MP3s when DJing though, and while I always need to tweak them a little it's worth it to save the 15-20% per clip!

the solution is "complex"

Post by diskonaut » Sun Mar 18, 2007 2:34 pm

Thanks a lot!

I was close to wipe live 6 from my hard disk and to return to live 5.2.2!!!

I had the same problems with clicks and cracks since the update to 6 and all the other tipps and ideas were without any effect. lost so much time to search for a solution!!!! Switching from complex to beat made everything nice again! And btw the timig of the track is a lot better!

So the question is why did the complex mode work fine in 5.2. and now makes clicks and cracks in 6 ???

My Setup is:
Pentium4 3,0 GHz
1GB RAM
M-Audio Firewire Solo
Live 6.0.5
