word to this as well. Derrick has his opinions, and in my experience (and believe me I have had an experience) it is nothing personal - he's just down for making shit bigger for U.S. and Detroit artists and he's uber critical of the U.S. Dance scene. The man has points and I respect that.

When he played my club Compression last year, he was a total gentleman, nice, unassuming, and pleasant to be around. You know what? Actually, cool as fuck. I can't wait to eventually have him back.

Every time I've met richie (twice) I think he's been totally the same. He knows what he means to the EDM scene and he's not an egoist about it like some mofo's I've met who are not half as impactful as Richie has been.

Can you imagine where we'd all be without Detroit? Holy shit.

Say what you will about Derrick but without him & the rest of the crew there would have been no +8 to begin with. This might be hard for some to realize who were not there but if you ask Rich himself he will give DM his prop's.

Rich is probably one of the most important figures in the game. He has been able to get people interested in this music who otherwise would not have given it a second look. He also is not afraid to move forward in his philosophy and technics. This in my opinion is what sets him apart. His fans can be a bit fanatical at times but hey - respect is due to the man. I find it strange no one ever mentions his collaborations with Dan Bell (as Cybersonik). This seems to be the turning point for Rich as Dan was actually the guy who had developed this style before anyone else in Detroit or Berlin. But he seldom gets credit for it.

If your actually interested in the art and craft of the process you might want to search out some old releases by DBX and Rich and check the dates on the releases. Also check out early Rob Hood as these folk were all pretty close at that period in time. Sharing ideas and theories.

Truth be told artist never have these kinds of rants about who's the most important - its normally some person on a message board that kicks these things off. But hey - its a free world and people can say what they like thats the beauty of it I guess...

I forgot to mention I had the pleasure of working with Rich back in the early 90's on a track (titled "UP") at his old studio in Canada. No one should ever doubt the man has technical skill. There are a lot of DJs / Producers today who don't even produce their own material but Rich is 1000% a do it yourself kind of guy and I really admire that about him.

Theres no modern day trickery going on - if his name is on it then hes the one who pulled it off. I really can't give the guy enough credit for his dedication to the music and pushing things forward.

nobody is doubting Richies dedication, but you can still be free to like or not like his music.

personally, i prefer his dj'ing. some of his music is very very basic... which is fine because thats what his angle is, but like i said, people have the right to make up their own minds.
