MDP24 Heads Up

Post by JahGuide » Mon Feb 19, 2007 10:19 pm

In case you are having issues with this device you may need to exchange it for a working model this is what I got from Akai.

"At this time, we are asking customers with knob jitter to call in for an RA number. The unit will be flagged for replacement. This is not occurring on all units but in order to resolve any issues, we’ll need to look over those that do exhibit any knob jitter."

I will be sending mine back to them for a replacement.

i had the same problem...

i went out to my local guitar center and copped a Korg PadKontrol...thing was dope...but felt cheap and ended up having a couple of chronic sticking pads...so i took it back and exchanged it for the mpd24.

which i found was DOPE. and had the pad kontrol COVERED. BUT. this one had the knob jitter problem. took IT back for another one. get back home and its DEAD. turns and does NOTHING.

FRUSTRATED. i took IT back and exchanged it for and axiom 25 (25 keys, 8 knobs, 8 nice drum pads, transport controls)...i love the axiom 25. BUT i still want another mpd24. those things are dope.

random banter.

Wow....I feel extremely lucky...I just bought an MPD24 and it works like a dream.

Do you guys see the knob jitter on all the "presets"...I know others have posted problems with the knobs but what I noticed is that some of them are programmed differently in the BFD Lite preset (which loads up first by default)...three or four of the knobs don't have the full 0-127 range programmed and instead have like 24-82 or something like that.

Anyway, I'm up and running with my MPD24 and loving it so far...trying to get my Live preset programmed so I can trigger loops and Impulse, if anybody has a bitchin Live preset, I'd appreciate a look :)

how come you didnt exchange it again for another?

this guy on the mpc forum exchanged an mpc 500, 4 times, because of some high pitched buzz coming in on all outputs.

JahGuide - when I map the knobs to control various params in Live, occasionally I will notice those mapped param values change on their own without me even touching the knobs. Would this be classified as the "knob jitter" problem? thanks.

P.S. this is with a recently purchased MPD24.

Yes that would be considered the knob jitter. I assigned stuff in live and knobs kept moving on their own. I thought maybe they need to update the OS but it seems that it is a hardware issue since they want me to return the device to them. Also some of the knobs about 4 of them flat out don't work at all. Mine was only about two weeks old also.

Okay, looks like i will be making a call into Akai too because my endless encoders definitely have a mind of their own. Even during the midi mapping process I'm seeing some strange behavior from the encoders in that with some of the encoders I lose the CC assignments right away and I'm using the latest firmware update. Thanks for the info.

Call the number on this page: http://www.akaipro.com/contact.php

Explain the problem to them (have serial number on hand) and they will send you an R.A.# to send your unit back directly to them and they will replace it with a new one. They will pay for all the shipping (as they should). The only drawback is this could take up to a month to get a new unit back in your hands.

Interestingly, I was on the phone with them yesterday and I asked them if they have been getting a lot of calls/returns with this problem and they said no, only a couple in all of the U.S. I have a hard time believing that.

MPD24 Knob Jitter

Post by Keybored » Thu Mar 01, 2007 7:26 am

FYI - I am on my 2nd MPD24 and both units had knob jitter. I replaced the first at point of purchase and will be sending the 2nd one back to Akai.

I love the design and features and I know this is the trigger pad I want so I'm willing to wait for them to get it right but... damn.

BTW - I had an M-Audio trigger finger and this blows it away.

i have also had a trigger finger, but it lost sensitivity on me, but the only thing i use it for is an autograph board for my favorite musicians....so far i have j-live sign it and CL Smooth signed it too.

as for my mpd.....no troubles yet and i got mine as one of the first batch...tre must be one bad batch lying around to caus havoc on a good product like this.

Wow! I can't believe you guys are having problems with those. I was actually thinking about buying one. I always loved Akai products. I still own a MPC 3000. I have a M-Audio Trigger Finger, and I still wanted the MPD 24 for the authentic MPC pads. A friend of mine has been dying to get one, but he can't seem to get his hands on one.

I think I'll stick with my Trigger Finger. At least it's stable.
