Drum Machines?
Just wondering what people here use for percussion.
I've tried everything; REX loops, Impulse of course, i own and love microTonic and i have Battery3 for really detailed sampling. But my favorite by far is Groove Agent.
Does anyone here use Steinberg's Groove Agent? Are you excited about the release of Groove Agent 3 like I am? (Steinberg has delayed the release signifigantly)
Apparently with the new version you can finally import samples and loops and stuff.
But I've always loved this damned product, press a fricking button and you've got a song of nothing but drums!!! The humnaize feature is kick ass, some of the "elctronic" drums are a little on the cheesy side, the acoustic kits are decent, (especially the Heavy Metal Kit) but with all the patterns and fills it come with right out of the box, you can't go wrong.
I am currently converting all the MIDI patterns it comes with so i can use them with Battery3, cuz the kits in Battey3 are way better.

Mostly I use and modify Impulse clips.
Lately I'm using more BFD, but I can't get any of the BFD MIDI content to function quite right. If I drag BFD MIDI files as if they were Live clips, they don't track properly on all drums, and I don't really know how to use the BFD sequencer from within Live. So I've been playing my own drum parts and saving these off as new clips. Time consuming, but best results to date.

STOMPER!!!!!!!!
it's free, ancient, and has become virtually unknown, yet is my favorite tool for creating drum hits, especially bass kicks. You can manipulate samples, or synthesize the drum sound, or both. just try it and see.

i know, i'm having the same problem with groove agent. they make the products so that the data is proprietary, but all that does is make things more inconvienent i guess.mbenigni wrote:Mostly I use and modify Impulse clips.

Pretty much the same sequencer as on the TR909... Quite easy to program... Dig it up..bigbadotis wrote:cosmosuave,
are you serious? I had a 707 that I picked up for like $20... the sequencer seemed so unintuitive to me that I almost felt like the $20 was wasted. Should I dig it up and play with it? Is it really somewhat decent once you wrap your head around it?

I use Machinedrum-UW, my own sample collection, and just recently Battery 3.

The weird thing is that I cannot even conceive of a way for them to have gone and broken this. I mean, the MIDI files are there in a folder plain as day. I can navigate to them, and drag them into a Live BFD track, and most of the pattern will play, indicating that I am in fact dragging MIDI around. But the pattern is never quite the same as what happens when I launch the same clip in BFD itself.i know, i'm having the same problem with groove agent. they make the products so that the data is proprietary, but all that does is make things more inconvienent i guess.
How the heck do you break MIDI??
