You might try to delete your prefs file.

PC
local settings/Ableton/preferences

MAC
Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live
3ghz Pentium 4 (Prescott), XP Sp2, 1gig Ram, Dual Monitor with Matrox Millenium, MOTU Traveler, Event EZ8 Adat card. Also IBM THinkpad t40 1.6 1 gig ram

it's here
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Application Data\Ableton\Live 6.0.3\Preferences
It doesn't look very tweakable, maybe rename it, boot up and fix the file path inside Live.

please note that I said DLL files will screw up the scan, not VSTs (which are also DLL files.)

Well, it's probably working. Next time, if you're messing around with files that may be important, I'd recommend renaming them rather than deleting them just in case they were needed after all. Just a hint. ;)

I don't know if this will mean much to you, but as far as I can tell the 'config' file is a binary serialised class, serialised using a custom binary formatter, so editing it through a text viewer will probably corrupt it. I'll have a play around with it to see if I can knock up a small app to allow editing of the file, but the deserialisation could be tricky.
..?
