Hello,
As the thread title says. Anyone out there got the Black Box by M-audio?
Can it also serve as a standard soundcard? Meaning that I can listen to what's going on in my DAW clean by bypassing the effects? Is it USB powered or do I need an adapter? Is it any good?
It's going cheap and it might be ok for a crappy old PC I have lying about.
Though I have also been looking at the Emu 0202. Seems to have a nice software package. Also going fairly cheaply.
Thanks
Thanks

You can download the manuals from the M-Audio site. I don't have one, but have looked into it. It does serve as a sound card, so you can listen to DAW output, by redirecting Live's output to it. It is NOT USB powered, it has a separate power source.
Not sure why you'd get one if you didn't have a guitar though.
You can also find them on eBay and Craig's List.

The Black Box is what got me into Live. Now I hardly ever play guitar.
But yes, it's a USB1 audio interface. There's a 'mix' knob that controls the balance between DAW playback and input signal. The BBs onboard effects can be applied to the guitar signal or the mic input, but not to both at the same time. USB1 doesn't carry juice, so there's no phantom power and you've got to use the wallwart.
For the money, I think they're a great starter unit. And when you move on to a better interface, and I think you'll want too, you'll still have a killer little practise tool.

I do have a guitar, but I don't want it only for that. Though I am put off by the fact you need a wall wart adapter.pmuellr wrote:You can download the manuals from the M-Audio site. Anyone got any comments the Emu 0202 then?
