newbie\ playing midi files - no output

windows xp sp2
asio4all v2
live 5.2

loaded a midi file from my system
can see the different clips as tracks
midi to set to ms wavetable synth
monitor to auto

when i click play there is no activity on the midi clips volume indicator nore is there any sound

ideas???

Have you assigned 'instruments' to the tracks?

just drop an instrument from Impulse to Midi

as i mentioned i am new to this

in the prefs i set the ms synth an midi out

from the file browser i double clicked a format 1 midi file

all of the tracks show up in the session view but the midi to says no output

i changed that to ms synth and when i click on the master triangle in the same row as the midi clips i can see activity in the volume area of the clip and hear the ouput

how can i make the ms synth the default, if i want, so i don't have to change from 'no output' to it
