Yes. Why are you afraid of updating?

Some people had problems with the updates not with 10.4.8 but with other versions.
I am only asking if it is safe 10.4.8 and Live6

In every software upgrade, some people will inevitably have problems. If you have some extra time, go and search the forum for "shoud I upgrade to 10.x.x?", and I'll bet you'll find posts with people shit-talking every version of OSX since 10.0 for supposed problems that they've "heard about from other people". (Hint: the "other people" generally don't exist)

It's important to realize that most times, people that have severe issues are a very small but vocal minority. If your setup is stable, then cool, don't upgrade, but then you loose your "right" to bitch about bugs when they do occur.

10.4.8 is ok for me with my macbook/audiofire2/live6.0.5

It has to be said it doesn't feel like a particularly solid release though (more a hunch than anything solid). 10.4.9 is out soon, I'm expecting that to be better. I'd possibly wait until then.

I gave up upgrading a while back. Stuck at Live 5.2, OSX 10.4.6 and the original firmware for the Ultralite.

When I get enough cash together for a new puter, then I'll join the upgrade merry-go-round again, but as it all works for me at the moment, I don't see the point in changing anything.

I think that 10.4.9 will be much better, based on the fact that apple has released at least three build seeds to ADC developers. Most of the changes in 10.4.9 seem to be fairly inconsequential, but apple nonetheless seems concerned about testing the hell out of it, probably because they want to iron out the last bugs in this build before stabilizing it and focusing development on 10.5 instead.

I agree. I hear that an update for my audiofire is contingent of 10.4.9 being released (with updated firewire driver). Fingers crossed they get this right.

It'll be 10.5.1 (at least) before I upgrade to Leopard (Tiger was the same).

I'm on 10.4.8 w/no issues in Ableton or Logic. My audio interface is a MOTU Traveler.

i was afraid to upgrade to 10.4.8 myself. Couple of weeks ago I finally did it.

It does feel a bit less stable than 10.4.7 and I've gotten a few random errors that I'd never seen before (including two random restarts! WTF) 8O

Hasnt happened very often, but it has happened. 10.4.7 on the other hand used to run perfectly. Dont know if i should roll it back, but it's probably not worth the trouble. Lets just hope 10.4.9 comes soon.

We bought a Macbook 2cd in December and ended up taking it back because we could never get the wireless to work (along with a lot of other people). Couldn't tell if it was 10.4.8 or the card. A lot of bad support from Apple (which let me make very clear is the opposite of my usual experience). We eventually got our money back but it was an awful lot of grief. Older Macs worked perfectly on our network, just not the new machines. It was a drag that all the sales people and tech support people kept denying that anything was wrong on their end, until we got up to the level of a senior product specialist who admitted that we weren't doing anything wrong, and that it should work, but...and a lot of hemming and hawing.
