Neb, I think I have a solution for my nLite performance partition. Instead of using XP Pro I should build my nLite with Home version, and use the serial printed at the bottom of my notebook. Then it should work, am I right ?

If your lappie originally shipped with XP Home, the serial underneath your lappie should work with any version of XP Home, THEORETICALLY. I've run into cases where later versions of XP did not like earlier serial numbers. I'm not sure if it's a Windows Genuine Authorization (my god, this is such total bullshit...almost as bad as iTunes...) or if the OEM versions of windows that ship with the manufacturer are different. I just know that sometimes the serials don't work. But more than likely it will work, yes.

Also, I've looked into Nlite and other mods, and I just don't think they're worth it. Your experience may be different, but nowadays, I just install XP, do a few tweaks, and I'm good to go. My suggestion is to use the XP Home installer that came with your lappie and use the serial underneath.

If you want, I can send you the text portion of that SOS article that talks about the basic things you need to do to run an XP installation solid for music. Let me know.

the idea is that you apply all those tweaks for audio and generally better performance once and it is done, you dont have to repeat it every time. Also the registry is clean, the rubbish does not get installed at all.
I don't know if it is necessary anymore, Since about a year I even perform with the "general" partition. hardly opened the other one in months. My problems that made me bother about it last week were fixed with 6.03 so it is just for emergency that I made that parallel OS. Maybe I have a Mac complex, mistrusting XP subconsciously, it is irrational of course.

I just reinstalled my OS after the recent discussion about turning off Hyperthreading. I turned it off and did a CLEAN install, so that I had the correct drivers for only one-CPU. As a result, I also decided NOT to go to service pack 2 because things just felt faster with SP1. Bottom line, my PC feels lean, mean and fast. I've only installed the SP1 security updates, although most of those are unnecessary, as I never surf the web with my audio lappie, except on RARE occassions to upload a file via FTP, and if I must get online, I do it via Mozilla, and only tursted sites, like RME for my drivers or Gmail. So what I'm saying is that with XP1, minimal updates, and a few tweaks, you can have a very good system for audio. I have fewer glitches and hickups now than ever before.

thought I would post in here because of the topic title, so i don't have to start another thread....

I am in the US. I bought a used copy of Live 5. the seller was sure that it had not been registered. when i tried to unlock, the limit had been reached. does this mean the seller was mistaken/lying?

here is the link to where I bought it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ableton-Live-Versio ... dZViewItem

as you can see, the seller replied to multiple people that it had not been registered.

I emailed Ableton support last night (sunday) at 9:30 and have gotten no response as of monday at 5:37 PM. I included my serial number and told them what the problem was.

My serial is registered to my account on the Ableton website.

I guess my question is: does this mean that this copy has been unlocked twice before?

and

how long does Ableton Support take to reply to unlock emails?

am i likely to be able to use this software that i purchased?

i understand ableton's unlock policy, but am more wondering along the lines of people's personal experience with it.

Hi,

The situation means that the serial was unlocked, yes, but if you could register it to your account, it also means that it was not registered, so there is no 'lie'. It is possible to unlock eithout registering, which is not advised.

I can't find your email, was it sent on the 11th March? Can you re-send it, we'll look into it.

regards,
Amaury
