Missing Presets and files

Post by Wayne from White Salmon » Sat Feb 24, 2007 10:34 pm

I don't know what I've done but somehow I can no longer locate any presets or wave files.

When I load an impulse instrument, for example, the midi track shows the impulse instrument, but when I try to select a preset, there are no files under presets in the browser.

I did set the library preference is pointed to the location of my library, but still no files.

I tried to uninstall LIVE and reinstall it to reload the files, thinking maybe a new install would find the files or reload them. No workie.

I'm dead in the water. What am I doing?

Probably something simple I'm overlooking.

Can anyone toss me a clue here?

What a maroon

I don't know how I did it, but I somehow deleted the preset files in a clean up frenzy. I reloaded LIVE 6.05, the update, and it installed a new library.

All is well, I'm a maroon for not figuring this out.

Thanks anyway, carry on.

You can choose a different location for your Library anytime in the prefs. By default Live loads up and asks you to choose a Library right after installing.

Note, you should do a backup of your Library if you add a lot of your own presets, or if you import a lot of samples. This is just an insurance policy in case future versions of Live dick with your Library.

Of course, I couldn't do an easy backup, as I had gigs of extra samples in there, so I took out my 3rd party samples, and now I just use the library for presets and saved clips. But I always do a backup every few weeks.

From one maroon to another...good luck :)

There are a few different file types in there, .alc, .wav.asd, .als, .asd, .alp...

How do these file types work together to make stuff appear in Live? What determines where things appear?

Now that's an in-depth question that has a LONG answer. Suffice it to say that ASD files can be preset file as well as pointers for sampler/simpler/impulse to samples in other locations. It's an intricate system...

Isn't maroon 3 a band?

We're still 2 maroons short of a band.

I think Adonis counts as 2 maroons.
