Hiccups in Live 5

Post by Rhineheart » Sun Feb 25, 2007 6:52 pm

Hi everyone,

I think it must be easier for you guys to solve my problem if you know my specs.

I'm running Ableton Live 5.0.1 on an Apple MacBook (Mac OS X)
I have a 2Ghz CPU and 1 gig of RAM.

When I try to play a couple of loops, the output audio starts to hiccup ... there are a lot of glitches and unplanned pauses in the loops. When I play 1 or 2, the problem doesn't occur, but it starts when I play a couple of them, 3 or more, simultaneously.
I even tried shoving my CPU buffer bar to the maximum and it still happens to me.

Does anyone know what the problem is and what I should do?
When I check iStat Pro, it shows me that my CPU isn't running at full speed at all, so it doesn't have anything to do with my CPU being too weak, now does it? Would an upgrade to 2gig of RAM help? And/or is there any other way out?

Thanks in advance!

You need 5.2 for a macbook. 5.0.x versions were for PPC architecture only. 5.2 supports universal binary / intel macs, as does Live 6.

5.2 at the time was a paid upgrade for MacIntel users, so I'm not sure that you can just download it.
