mesa works with s2000, very well,,

only runs on older operating systems

mac os 7.?
windows??

Mesa offers sample transfer and remote controll of most features.

I had a s2000 and a s3000xlI, used them with a g3, running cubase and recycle.

the s2000 works really well over the scsi connection with recycle 2.0.

sends your samples chopped up to the s2000 along with program data.

I would suggest finding an older mac laptop like a g3 wall street.

the scsi will hook right up to your mac lappy.

the wall streets g3 laptops can be had for less than $100 usd

these old akai samplers sound great, and are rock solid in a live perfomance setup.

and if it ever breaks, you can replace it dirt cheap.

good luck, pm me if you need more information

The only difference between an S2000 and an S3000XL is the smaller display, different front panel controls, no internal HD connector, and the software... The logic board inside is the same. You can even see where the HD connector would go, it's marked on it and says "S3000XL only"...

thanks everyone for the tips and suggestions. i've kinda been looking at getting an old mac just for the sound mangling potential so the g3 recommendation is appreciated in reference to this sampler.

MESA works with the S2000. Runs fine in OS 9, but you'll need a functioning SCSI interface. And ... it's AppleScriptable, which makes batch processing possible.

I kinda miss my old S2000, but that 256 loaded sample limit (across all programs on 16 channels) in the Akai OS became a serious limitation when I started to work with multitimbral drum pad setups.

I used a PC with the S2800, I believe PC users had problems with MESA and pre 3200 samplers, Mac users didn't. +1 on getting a mac to support it.

Best looking laptop ever.

It's so beautiful you'd be forgiven to think it was made by SGI...

that is exactly why I gave them up.

They are so cheap now, you can rack up 7 of them for less than a $1000
