one thing you can do is go through all your songs and figure out which key they're in.. and then give each key a colour.. so C = Cyan, C# = Blue, Etc etc .. This makes it easier while your DJing to spot which tracks will fit the key/scale..

It works great. I made a 50 song mashup .als, all synced up, rock to reggae to funk to tarnce. It was fun, then I used that software, Mixed In Key and I could then pitch songs up or down and the difference was night and day, the mixes sounded SOOO much better. I play guitar, I don't have perfect pitch, despite my name I'm not tone deaf but it really opened up a lot of new mixing potential.

You sound like a spam bot for Mixed in Key. ;) 8O

Not wanting to bash mixed in key, but i've been having a rethink about using it recently.
I think sometimes the drums, if mixed loud on a track, and are not tuned can interfer with the results... if MIK can't decide what key the tune is in, it just seems to lump it into a minor (8a).
You obviously get much better results if you chop your tune into phrased loops and run each of them through the software... you can then also spot where the key changes are!
It does take forever though........

Have any of you checked out rapid evolution @ http://www.mixshare.com/

Its free and really feature packed, but I've only used it briefly.

If you're harmonically beatmatching, you're only really interested in the intro and outro keys. I use Mixed In Key to determine the intro and outro keys, and include them in the song title (in Camelot notation, along with the tempo), so I can use Live's search facility to find compatible keys & tempos.

It can make the difference between a mediocre and a great mix, and it's so easy to do, even for those of us musically-challenged!

I use RapuidEvoilution (at mixshare). I love it - it's basically a database that also detects key and bpm. Look into it, it's FREE.
