"syncing" problems with firewire 410

Post by albert » Mon Feb 26, 2007 8:08 am

i have a firewire 410 and i know the latency is pretty bad but it seems it has gotten worse. i was wondering why that could be? also it seems that when i try to preview audio files through my powerbook's finder window my audio stutters and glitches. recently it has gotten worse and now its pretty bad. within ableton there is no glitching problems (hopefully not ever) but preview audio from windows is horrible. its also pretty bad to with my itunes. sometime its worse then other times but its driving me insane. please any help would be greatly appreciated. i have a G4 powerbook with 1.5 ggigs of RAM and i can't figure out why i have the stutters or glitches when previewing audio. please help . thanks

In Live make sure you only have the midi port setting you need checked off, that can make a Live setup go wonky.

BUT iTunes is also screwing up, so all the usual driver debugs, re-install the drivers, use ASIO4ALL, the usual stuff.

Also, I'm a believer that computers just need to be rebuilt every few years, especially ones that go on the internet. Shit just gets into your system.

Scan with Adaware and virus scanning. Check for any loose connections in your cabling...

Dunno, it's kind of a general question, any more short descriptions of the bug would be helpful.

I had the firewire 410 before I switched to the RME, but there's nothing wrong with the 410's latency, the RME is only marginally better by a fewer fractions of a millisecond. If you're using the latest drivers and sensible settings, e.g. 44.1 kHz / 256 buffer, and you're still having problems, it may be something other than the interface. I wish I could offer you more help but I don't use a mac.
