MIDI jitter

Hello,

I apologize in advance if this topic has been resolved elsewhere in the forums - I haven't found a suitable answer yet..

I'm a diehard Ableton Live user/fanatic. I'm using the latest 6.05 version on PC with Windows XP and have been using live from the early days.

I'm experiencing a problem with MIDI jitter and have tried to solve it on many occasions with no luck.. Maybe someone here might have a few tips?

By MIDI jitter, I mean that when playing VST instruments from my USB/MIDI keyboard there are obvious timing inconsistencies. Sometimes the timing sounds ok, but often a note gets slightly delayed - this happens somewhat randomly.

The frustrating part, is that this only happens with Live. If I use the same computer and hardware setup with Cubase 4, the timing problem goes away.. In fact, playing vst instruments with Cubase just seems to 'feel' so much more natural in their response while live feels 'jerky' and a bit choppy..

Anyone have any suggestions as to why this might happen?

This could be several issues. Buffer settings, perhaps? Check the Live preferences so that the VSTi buffer is the "Same as audio card".

Could you better define what you mean by midi jitter?

connect your external hardware
open the midi settings under options, leave it open.
turn them all off
now turn them on one at a time to get only what you need to use
too many things set can cause Live to get wonky.
