I'm new here...

Post by SolonOfAthens » Wed Mar 07, 2007 4:11 am

Hi all, I am new to the world of Ableton and audio recording. I was hoping that some of you could help with a question on which mic to get. I am trying to choose between the Rode NT2 ($400) and the Audio Technica 4050 ($600) for vocals. I have a deeper singing voice by the way.
I also think I need some more plugins, but I am waiting 'till I get more familiar with things before wasting any more money.

My current setup includes:
Mac Book Pro
Ableton Live
Massive
FirePod
PadKontrol
Novation SL 37
Nady RSM-4 Ribbon Mic
Shure SM7
2 MXL 990's that I've gotten for free

Thanks in advance.

welcome !

mics are really subjective, try and audition a few candidates at a music store and see which you like best !

you can get many great plugins for free at kvraudio.com. Although there are more vsts available for the pc platform but mac plugins are catching up !

Hey thanks for the welcome and web link (I will be checking it out). I don't live in the biggest city so, as far as I know, I'm not able to audition mics. Does anyone here own both mics by chance?

You should add a photo to "let's get this party started" asap.

knotkranky- Are you talking about the post with the pictures of people's setups? If you are, I will bring my digital camera up here to school after the weeked when I get it from home.

Rod Underleaf- Although I think you are correct that Athenians may have been involved in their fair share of sodomy, that wasn't really what I was going for. 8O

What's wrong with the MXL 990s? Don't let the freebie thing get in the way. They're worth every bit of $59.99 each. :?

Just my oppinion, 4050 is such a great mic for guitars, i prefer NT2 for vocals
