Hi, i'm a newbie to ableton live so please bare with me please,
my problem is i have a simple setup using a regular djing mixer, a mic, a amp, plus a m-audio fast track pro and the ableton live software...
but when i'm trying to record a vocal track using my mic i get a delay could anyone tell me what is wrong and how to fix it please, i would also love a walk through step by step instruction on how to setup all these equipment the correct way...
thanks in advance
I GET DELAYS WHEN I TRY TO RECORD VOCAL --- PLEASE HELP
Dunno about mic-rec delays, but with H/W ... you could do few things with that. I would:
M-Audio to computer, outputs 1/2 and 3/4 from M-Audio to channels on mixer (in Live select ASIO drivers and after that route whatever channels you want from Live to outs 1/2 and 3/4 - I/O section), headphone monitoring on mixer, mic into M-Audio +/- phantom power. Mixer out to amp (if it is hi-fi or monitor kind, not ment for mic). Notice that multiple inputs/outputs for M-Audio can take more resources, hope you got a good computer.
Most people here would tell that I'm selling crap, but that's the way I would do it

Thanks for replying Lateral, and that's exactly how i have it setup up right now, now i just need to learn how to stop the delay while recording.but with H/W ... you could do few things with that. I would:

There will always be a delay no matter what. You need to set it up so that it compensates for that delay afterwards. There's a tutorial about this, in with the recording audio tutorials, that shows you how to find out exactly how big the delay is, and then you go into Preferences and then type in the exact number of milliseconds the delay is in the space for Driver Error Compensation.
Hi,
Yes, the thing to do is to use 'direct monitoring', so the sound of the microphone outputs directly through the soundcard, while it is recording silently into Live. So, at the end of the recording, Live compensates for the latency and the playback is the same as the recording, and, you don't experience latency either while recording.
See your soud card's manual about 'direct monitoring', and turn Monitor to OFF in Live, on the track you are recording to.
Kind regards,
Amaury
