Remote SL automap templates, can i edit them?
the subject really says it alll i suppose. anyone out there know if it is possible to edit the automap templates for ableton. Some of the controls just aren't laid out how i'd like.
Also, has any other SL owners had trouble recording thier automation moves? i know i can't record into session view clips, but it doesn't seem to record as correct automation data in arrange. the arrange clip records MIDI automation rather then any automation to the parameter on the device i'm controling.
thanks.

well, i installed the new OS, though haven't really been using it yet. from the look of it that update is only good for templating 3rd party plugins, not bulit in live effects. yes?

Hey there -
I've edited my automap with no problems. I'm currently using 4 slightly modified versions of the ableton automap as a template group. Here are some of the custom changes I've made:
-Top left buttons under LCD: The first five are assigned to other templates; 1-4 are linked to my custom templates, and 5 links to the new plugin map (which is awesome - you can scroll through device presets with one click!)
-Middle row of buttons below endless encoders: These are assigned to track stop buttons. This is not ideal because I bump encoders all the time
-2 rows of buttons under the track faders: These can be assigned as well.
Right now the endless encoders work fine as automaps - I can scroll up and down through controls in instruments, etc. Same story with the track faders - you can scroll beyond 8 tracks and this works fine. The big difference is that the buttons you re-assign will not be scrollable beyond 8 tracks.
Hope this helps.
Joe.

Check out the new manual available with the universal automap update - this new manual is much better than the original.
The editor is just ok - the easiest way to edit the SL (imho, of course - some people dig the editor) is directly on the unit:
1) Push the edit button in the center lineup
2) Hold down the edit button and move/push/twist/freak/jack the control you want to edit.
3) The left LCD will light up with all of your options - edit away!
4) push "write"
5) push "write"
6) push "write"
now the control is permanently saved to the template. You can always reset the factory settings if you want.
Also - the editor is great for saving templates, changing the order of templates, etc.
To edit a template in the editor, you have to tell the editor to "listen" for a template and you have to tell the device to dump a template. You dump templates by pushing the global button and then scrolling up on the left LCD 4X or so. This stuff is in the manual though.
Have fun -
Joe.

hey thanks so much, i'll check out that new manual. yeah i really like the way most stuff is mapped, but for other things the mapping seems really random. the automap for the EQ8 for example. it's a whole bank of gain, a whole bank of Q, etc. it would be much easier for me to have it mapped to a bank for all the contols for each band. so that i can actually tweak the gain, center frequency, and q of and band without changing banks. then go up to the next bank and have another EQ to tweak.
