New CoreAudio support for Live 3.x in OS X!!!

For anyone else out there who has been seriously discouraged by live 3's consistent problem of crashing with their Digidesign hardware (especially MBox), they just released CoreAudio 6.5 which now fully supports Live 3!! Download it at Digidesign's website in the support area, and say goodbye to the infamous "Live has unexpectedly quit" pop-up!

Hi DS,
Thanks for the advice - I was getting tired of this problem too. I was unable to run Live for more than 30 secs without a crash. Seems to be fine now after CoreAudio 6.5 is installed. Many thanks ! I spoke to an MAudio rep last week who scoffed at my measly 256MB Ram on a G5 and insisted this was causing all the problems. He's right - it definitely does need more Ram - but it appears that the main problem was lack of a proper Core Audio driver. Oh well, at least when everything works it is truly great software! If any other Mbox etc users are suffering this problem I suggest following DS's advice.

heya,

i downloaded it a couple of days ago... no crashes yet, but did get some unexpected white noise bursts... scared the crapola outta me!

is that something to do with latency? it seemed to fix itself when i moved the buffer size to 1024.

6.5 did not work here. OS 10.3.4, 17" Powerbook 1 GHz. I got a message that the audio device is no longer available. It worked when I open the Digi CoreAudio Manager and set the buffersize to 1024 and then opened Live. The buffersize was automatically set back to 512. The first time it crashed the CoreAudio Manager. There seem to be problems with this driver and they are acknowledged by digidesign. I guess there will be an upgrade soon.

Sounds a little kooky for sure; 6.5 totally remedied my Live issues. When you change audio settings in live do you click 'save template' in preferences? That might keep it from changing the buffer size every time, but first trash the old 'preferences', 'log' and 'template' files in Library/Preferences/Ableton.

I would also de/reinstall CoreAudio 6.5 and read the FAQs on its download page. Make sure to 'repair disk permissions' from the mac osx disk utility program after reinstalling CoreAudio. Lastly, make sure your system sound is not set to the Digidesign hardware and that you have Pro Tools 6.4 installed, but not running.

Something is terribly wrong with the OSX users.
It's too many that relates, it's giving me the chill.
