i figured it out, the samples in question had file names that were more than 16 characters. the mpc will not recognize such large file names, hence why they did not work even when being placed directly into the mpc. the solution, batch conversion software that renames multiple files at once.

That's not an issue, your setup could be fine tuned.

Interesting idea, good way to learn both boxes, but there's no real reason. The mpc's work flow isn't revolutionary enough to copy to Live. 4 layer samples with envelopes and FX, just rack some Impulses. The main thing about the mpc is that it's fun to play and has 'that swing'. The way it does things you can mangle beats in interesting ways (patched phrases, pitch control, slicing). It'd be like putting all Mercedes parts into a BMW, I guess, something like that.

MPC question

Bug or I'm dumb??

I go into the MIDI/SYNC menu and change the midi notes to match up with Impulse, the display changes but the notes don't. I can go to a Bank of pads that play the right notes (A3 for example) and Impulse reacts.

I can't change the notes the pads send. I'm on JJOS from about 2 months ago.

Any advice on changing the midi notes from an MPC? Please? :?

Thanks Rogue. I found the page and can change the values but they don't take effect. It's definitely sending notes, I just can't get my changes to take effect. Tried changing them then changing windows, I even assigned all 4 pad banks to unique midi notes in case you can't have duplicate notes, but still nothing.

sounds like you found a bug in the sysytem?

do you have the mpc editor software like bluebox?

I think you can create chromatic preset,
then you could just scroll through the banks, and hopefully find the pads

I had no trouble on the other mpc's that I used.

GOT IT!!! Thanks for inspiring Rogue. There are two places to set the midi notes, I was hitting the MIDI/SYNC on pad 9 but as you said there's a way to do it on a pad by pad basis, so I went into Program mode on pad 7 and there are note settings for each pad and each program. It motherfucking works now!! I don't know what the MIDI/SYNC menu does and I don't care.

THANK YOU!!!!

:D I'll gladly solder one up for you. I'd encourage you to order a kit and check out the parts, they're big ass through hole parts and it feels great to use something you made. But no problem, I'm in San Francisco near the blue world, I'll leave it at the beach you can send one of your merbitches to come pick it up. Ocean Beach or Baker Beach? I doubt you want to fight the currents at the Golden Gate.

Monome kits in 2 weeks!!! Can't wait to get my geek on...

MPC work like Live via the sudden key in next sequence mode

Post by Daduk » Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:05 pm

Ok mates,

Here a question behind the desk of my office, far from my MPC 2500 and Ableton.

Before I had my MPC I only worked with Ableton live and one of the features I used in order to change clips quickly in live situations was to set the clip time signature on 1/32 with legato on. This resulted in looping a clip and being able to launch another clip whenever I wanted witout the necessity to launch the new clip at the end of the current playing one. So what i did was a very small time signature (1/32) and legato for the notes.

I read in a thread on the mpc-forums that the next seq.- feature follows the main Timing Correct. Will I be able to launch any specific sequence via next seq. and the Sudden Key whenever I want without hearing a silence or whatever? It has to be a smooth transition from seq. A to seq. B etc

Am I clear enough and is this possible?

Thanks,

daduk

Noob question here so dont flame k? :)

Why would you want to use live and your 1k together? From what I understand, the 1k can basically do most things that Live can do.

I mean I know there are a lot of parameters in live that can be modified on the fly, but the 1k doesn't have sufficient sliders/knobs for it to function like that.

Basically what I can see is using Live to come up with your sequences and loops etc and using the 1k to trigger them, OR BETTER YET, why not just export the loops created in Live and load them into the 1k?

Am I missing some really creative ideas here that I can utilize? I use my 1k when I gig (with loops created with Live, loaded into the 1k) because I just cant risk having Live crash when I'm in the middle of a performance...

Ideas/comments ?? :P
