Downloading previous versions?

Post by tz » Mon Mar 12, 2007 9:44 pm

Folks, sorry really for asking what might be a dumb question. I did look at the faq's but either I missed it or...

If I purchase version 6 of Live, will I be able to download version 5? The reason I ask is that demo version 5 runs very well on my system while version 6 demo keeps crashing. Now I realize there is an unlocking process so I can see how registering two versions might be somewhat confusing, but is it possible? After all if I had purchased version 5 and then 6 I would in fact have both regs.

If yes, how would I go about doing this.

Again, I know it sounds ridiculous to purchase a version and use previous one, but it's a matter of timing right now where I need to complete a project a.s.a.p. and don't have time to fiddle with why ver 6 is crashing since 5 is perfect.

Time if of the essense.

Thanks again,

tz

email [email protected]; if they don't get back to you in time, and you need v5 of the pc version, I'll send you the installer.

nebulae,

Perhaps you didn't get the part in my msg where it's kind of urgent. I did write to Ableton some days ago regarding something else, still no reply. I need to make a purchase of this program tonight or stick with another daw that I am using.

This is whether some Ableton Live user has already experienced the need to use a previous version while having purchased the latest. And if so, how.

Thanks,

tz

given that they are seperate products, I doubt you will get L5 if you buy L6. Your best options are to email support with URGENT in the subject line, and explain the situation, or buy a boxed version of L5 from a software outlet or ebay.

nebulae,

I think you might have edited your reply (adding: ; if they don't get back to you in time, and you need v5 of the pc version, I'll send you the installer.) while I was replying to you.

Thanks for the offer, but I need to be able to Render, etc, etc. I need to purchase a full version. I already have the 5 installer too, but needless to say no unlock code until perchase. I could not figure out how to purchase ver 5 alone either. Or, do I install ver5 installer and then register online version 5 via directly from software? It's kind of tricky, since I do want to pay for version 6, not to mention I have M-Audio Live Lite which gives me a discount to version 6.

Any help is appreciated,

tz

L6 is pretty rock solid...I'd upgrade to 6. But if you don't feel confident and time is an issue, perhaps the other daw is the way to go..

Thank you again nebulae,

What I'm doing right now is reinstalling my OS to a higher version, then I'll see how the demo 6 goes.

Still interested in knowing if one can download previous versions if purchasing latest, so if anyone has done this again thanks for replying.

If you do buy live, keep in mind that you only get two unlocks before you have to email Ableton for more unlocks. So if you end up having to re-install your OS frequently, you should save the unlock.cfg file that gets created after you unlock the first time.

Do a search on this forum for "unlock.cfg" and there will be posts from me on how to save your unlock key for future installs.

Yes, good point. I did in fact save my Lite version unlock file. Still I will do a search and see what other hints you've posted regarding that.
