FAO Aussies!
Hi, well not long till I leave now. Unfortunately I failed my last chance of having a valid driving license, so I guess I'll have to take it down under.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me any infomation on it? Do you need a written test like the UK and/or a Provisional License? Is the test difficult compared to the UK? And is it exspensive?
I'm thinking I'll probably try and learn in and around the Melbourne area, if not Sydney.

you have to take a written test to get a Learners then when you pass your practical test you get a provisionsal
be warned, melbourne is weird because of the trams - they have this weird turn right from left lanes thing
you should come to Queensland, nice easy place to drive, then you could just use your Qld licence down there or transfer it!

ita a piece of piss compared to the english test. i failed the english test before i came out, but passed the aussie one when i got here.
its total different the instructor sits in with you and the examiner sits in the back.
you can touch the curb when doing a 3 pointer.
one of the moves is just a straight line reverse.
if you have done your test and had lessons up to that level then it should be really easy for you.
only bummer is ou go on a 3 year probationary after passing.
beware the driver are mad. dont expect to be let out, given right of way or be shown any kind of road sense.

but then driving would be practically impossible in the UK without courtesy
