launch clip to record in loop mode arrangement not working ?

So let's say I have a 4 bar loop (loop points set in arrangement mode) and I have tracks recorded in arrangement mode.

If I go to grid mode (with arrangement record active and while playing back the arrangement) and launch a 1 bar clip, it will only record a part of a bar into the arrangement then deactivate.

If I stop playing, activate record and then launch the clip then it will properly record repetitions of itself onto its track in the arrangement (as expected... e.g. 1 bar clip gets repeated 4 times into the 4 bar arrangement loop).

How come I can't launch a clip while I am recording so that it records into the track? (it looks like i have to stop first)

Is this a bug or a misunderstanding?
