10 minutes to copy 1/2 gig C:\ to C:\Test

Post by littlerockz » Fri Mar 16, 2007 4:37 am

10 minutes to copy 1/2 gig from C:\ to C:\test. I have a Sony Viao PCG K15 laptop. After installing a new harddrive, Segate 160 gig the disk I/O is very slow. The disk is partitioned into 2 partitionns, 30 and 130 gig, NT format. This is after a CLEAN install of Windows XP, SP2, and NOTHING else loaded or installed. I use Windows Explorer to do the copy. In search of the problem, I loaded Windows 2000 on the same drive, and it takes 21 seconds to do the same copy of the same file. In desperation, I got another Segate 160 drive and it has the same speed as the first one. Any suggestions?

Have you turned indexing and system restore off for both partitions?
