Your opinons on guitar rig??

I just recently realized how much better guitar rig can sound when used with other mxing plugs. On it's own, I'm finding it a bit mushy, but some good eq does wonders. I'm quite a fan of wavearts trackplug, and it's not the best eq out there, but using trackplug with guitar rig can really bring out both more beef and clarity, especially with heavy distortion, and I'm very happy with the results after some proper mixing.

Lots of fun with all those effects too, you can really screw up a sound nicely.

I'm sure I didn't give it the true "once over".......but amplitube 2 just seemed less smooth........could be me, could be the way I had it set up......etc............

Trust me, I have no "endorsements" for NI, I just was thinking the tones are smoother.........certainly not a putdown of IK......

BTW, I have been using AMPEG SVX for bass for a while now........DO love that!

I'll be curious to try the "jimmy hendrix" AT2............

I know a lot of people who love Guitar Rig.

I think it's fun to play with... kind of like a guitar video game or something.

But, for me personally, as far as recording & composing & playing is concerned, I wouldn't touch Guitar Rig. In my project studio I've got tons of guitars, tons of pedals, and five amplifiers. Real acoustic space and real microphones. No need for virtual reality for me.

Sales Dude - for those of us who have always lived in apartments, we can't crank the amps, amplitube, guitar rig and the Pod XT are godsends for us. There's also the 3am headphone jams. Loud as fuck and nobody can hear me.

Pod XT - has anyone checked out the $200 VST add-on thing for it? Looks cool but I'm not sure I need it.

I just got a midi guitar, 8mS latency and OMFG this is AWESOME!! I'm playing Covert Operator Operator patches on my guitar!! I can finally REALLY play keys. I'm stoked beyond belief.

Deft I ordered Pod XT Live today. I think you can demo the Gearbox VST plug-in with it. My understanding is that you can hook the XTL up to your PC via USB, control the sound it from within the plug-in, and have the XTL handle the DSP for the input track. So, you get near zero-latency monitoring of your input track off the XTL, record the guitar dry, and then you can mess with the plug-in at your leisure. I think that's how it works at least. I'll keep you posted.

kewl, I'll czech that out. The Pod XT is a great box, I was really happy to learn I could load bass amps ($100) into it for my bass, sounds great and the software that comes with it is the best I've ever seen for a hardware interface. It's nice having guitar processing external, I like long FX chains and low latency w/o pops and cracks.

This is my thing. And all though I own a house, it's about the neighbors, and the money! (hint, house=MUCHO CASH outflow!) Frankly, if I had some land I was on and had enough cash to get all the "goodies".....I'd got that way JUST to get the cpu and all that out of the way!

Besides, seriously, if you use a preamp up front (for me it's a UAD solo 610) you'll just be BLOWN at how "real" it sounds

....not to mention, when recording clean, you can keep the track the way it is and change to suit

No, I believe you are right. I've gotten away from the podxt live.....er.......not always sure why

It's a solid box and probably the best "modeled" solution for something you can use that is hardware.

One thing with line 6, you have an iron-clad 30 money back guarantee if the software part isn't to your liking.....WARNING though......your pod xt IS your dongle so to speak. You HAVE to use hardware of some sort is what I gather.

Yeah eye... hmm.. I had second thoughts and cancelled it. Thing is, my Macbook Pro is on the way now, so I'm kind of anticipating how things are going to work and what I need to do to shift over without hands-on the system.

I currently own Amplitube 2 which is soundwise, great. I'm thinking about gambling on an Emu 0404 USB 2.0 interface and seeing what kind of latency and processor headroom I can get on my new system with Amp 2, and if it's not good enough, then checking out Line 6. What I didn't realize about the Line 6 solution is not only do you need the hardware, but it's an additional $200 for the Gearbox plug-in (different than the standalone Gearbox).

So, if you want to record tracks as dry samples while monitoring effected input sound via XTL but actually have the plug-ins to make those dry samples sound like what you recorded when they become playback tracks, then you need to layout $200 for the plug-in version of Gearbox. Of course, you can always record wet samples, but that defeats 90% of the purpose of using sim plug-ins (parameter automation, easy re-amping, etc).

Oh btw, I'm 'Novel'. I changed my handle because I met someone who uses 'Novel' already and I like my new handle better anyway.

so far, I'm happy with it, except imho some patches do hog a LOT of resources.

The Rig Kontrol 2 was a major disappointment for me, cause I mainly intended to use it as a midi pedal, AS IT SAID IT COULD DO, only to find out it sends it's messages as some sort of audio and can't be used for anything else other than GR2.

Of course for Guitar players that didn't have a sound card before it might come in handy, but if I could choose again, I'd probably just get the software....

shows what it can do, the first half is fluff. The model used is one step below mine but looks very similar. Mine also doesn't have the USB port, but I can use my StealthPlug for that stuff.

There's also a MIDI patch up/down switch, a MIDI volume knob and a way to send tones down the 13 pin midi cable which I haven't messed with.

I couldn't be happier with it. The midi tracking is MUCH MUCH better than the Roland system (magnetic stick on pickup with a GI-20). Even running the audio and midi through Live there's less latency than running into a GI20 and into an amp without Live in the middle.

The center tapped humbuckers (pull a tone knob and a humbuckers turns into a single coil) are a great setup, I can do all the combos of single coil/humbuckers I could ever want. I get like 20 different pickup combos with that.

So, I have a Live set that has - clean guitar in (piezo), PodXT in (magentic pickups) and MIDI guitar in. I can blend all 3 tones at once, really versatile. Latencies were under 10mS playing all weekend but I never made a big set, I'm still mostly playing presets. It's great to back a synth line with a distorted guitar, or give a pad the attack of a clean guitar.

nice. Have you seen the new roland vg-99? Looks killer. I was super close to having a graphtech ghost bridge pickup installed on my strat (like an embedded gk-2a) for a 13 pin cable, but realized at the last minute that I ws broke and being stupid with my money and cancelled the order (It was in the store and everything). But one day, the vg-99 is what I'm lookin' at.
