I have a large album-length project in a sort of pre-production. I'm trying to do some digital chores and organization so that when i start the real creative production process, everything is simple and easy. I'll be more specific. This is what I really need help with, so perhaps some of you could give me suggestions on how you organize and manage your files.
At this point, I don't have any of my OWN samples mixed into Live's library. They are all in external locations. But I want to somehow combine live's included drum hits for example into folders with my own drum samples, to consolidate and make it easier later on, but hopefully also still know which ones were mine and which were factory. I find this to be a confusing task, as even the included factory drum sounds themselves are in MULTIPLE locations in Live's own library. (i.e. library/samples/waveforms/drums - library/library/waveforms/drums).
How do some of you organize your sample libraries in preparation for the creative process? I don't want to be looking around for a possible sample that would fit in a given song on my computer. I want to have one mass sub-directory of all rad audio things in one place, ready to be auditioned. Any suggestions would help. Thanks so much!
desperately need organization and library help.

Just remember that when you do move your files Live wont find them where they were... Think website directory systems. make a "root" folder and store everything inside it in nicely labeled folders nicely nested in more folders till you have a tree that you can navigate through. once this is set up open live and take live to the tree you planted and let it grow from there. My tree has its own 70GB partition in FAT32 so my NTFS and HFS can read and write to it smoothly.
Yeah for everyone being hypertechnical about this (like I am), its not actually a root folder as in "/"but a folder the user would create named something personal, i.e. "phukkphace" and inside phukkphace you will have "one hits" "loops" "vocals" "pornvideos" oops that doesnt go there. Eecchuum, You get the idea, and I have now had my fill of this forum for the night...
