Switching encoder assignments?! axiom 25

this axiom is driving me nuts. I was recently able to get my encoders to assign to knobs in the simpler by clicking on the device. But now i cant get them to be default and to work for the track volumes and etc? how to i get back to that> OMG I CANT STAND IT
