I just bought an Akai MPD24 and I am having some latency issues. When I the hit pads to trigger clips, impulse, etc. there is a delay/latency. I have tried changing my midi preferences to compensate, but still delay. Any help would be appericated.

reset your midi settings. This is most likely because of bad *audio* driver settings.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

My MPD 16 used to have latency problems. It was the shitty drivers from Akai. Maybe they haven't sorted that out still. Has it worked without latency before? Check your asio settings in case you haven't yet.

Yep! I have the audio driver set at the lowest, 512 samples on my Mbox.
