Render to disk- size too big!

Post by johnnywu » Mon Mar 19, 2007 1:51 am

Can someone help me with rendering my song to waveform format?

The song is only 3:40 with about 9 tracks. not much audio effects are used.

When I render at 24 / 96000, the wav file is 128 mb.
When I render at 24 /48000, the wav file is 67 mb.
When I render at 16 /32000, the wav file is 27 mb.

I'd like to keep the quality to at least 24 / 48000, but 67 mb is ridiculous.

can someone help me out?

Thanks a lot.

It doesn't matter how many tracks or effects you use on the render, the wav file will eat up a lot of room. I usually do 16/44000 and I think it works out to around 10mb/minute. Thems the breaks!

When I render at 16 bits/44.1 my average size tends to be around 50 mb.

Your numbers seem fine to me, maybe I don't understand the problem?

If you want the files to be smaller, convert them to MP3 and deal with the loss of quality.

use a small softer to convert your datas into mp3 , i think quicktime can do it , even in a better format likke AAc or somethin' ... kind of mp4 , much better sound quality !

What are you trying to do with them? Using them on the web or something mp3 is fine, for mastering or an album you should be using wavs. Why did you want it at 24/48000?

You can always burn them to cd or by ann external hd for it.

i wanted to put in on my ipod and listen to it, and upload it to the web as well.

would you suggest using less than 24-48?

perhaps 16-44 is better for my purpose?

render as 16-44 then encode to mp3 via some freeware program search google for "wav to mp3" for some ideas. Make sure you render to 128 - 192 khz mp3, anything lower will noticeably degrade sound (I usually do 192)
