Not recognizing MIDI Controller?

hey all..

i'm a total rookie to this kinda stuff so please go easy.

ok, i purchased a M-Audio O2 USB MIDI Controller Keyboard last nite.. and hooked it up to my PC XP SP2 via USB 2.0 -- it's compliant so no drivers were needed... setup was automatic.

i then fired up my Ableton 6.0.5 but cannot seem to map anything to the MIDI controller simply because it doesn't *look* like it's being recognized? i've tried setting it up in options->prefs->midi setup (ctrl + ,) but the INPUT drop downs are not available... they're unselected.

please can anyone shed light as to what i'm doing wrong... it's probably user error -user being me- so any advice would greatly be appreciated as i was trying for 3 hrs last nite to no avail

The device is class-compliant but you still need the drivers installed from the mAudio CD, otherwise it'll just be a generic device to Windows...

the cd had no drivers.. only a pdf manual (which was no help either!).

i did install the latest driver from the m-audio site which was no good. there were 2 available there, maybe i'll try installing the older one tonite and see how i go.

You want this driver for your keyboard.
I vaguely remember installing a driver for my Axiom, then running the program the driver installed in the programs menu to get my Axiom to work. So try that?

On Vista now so trying to remember what I did in XP...

Also FYI there is a good YahooGroup for the Enigma editor, and all MAudio keyboards...

i did install that driver you've directed me too.. i'mma start from scratch again tonite tho. reinstall it etc etc. hopefully i get success.

never knew about that yahoo group...the i'mma hunt it down now

I had exactly the same problem with A Audio Midi Uno interface + Oxygen 8 Midi controller, the drivers supplied on the disc that came with the devices didn't work .. I went to the M Audio website and downloaded BOTH drivers listed there and bingo! everything is up and running

finally got it working.. used the driver herne posted (yep same one as the m-audio site kenpottinger) and bingo!
