Novation Remote 25LE - any good / alternative?

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting one as a first step into production and also to incorporate into a live set up - for e.g. triggering samples, adding basslines/percussion live to a Live dj set.

Are these recommended? Are there better (cheapish) alternatives? And does anyone know if I will be able to use its midi out to plug into the midi in of my M-Audio Audiophile which then goes into my laptop's Firewire port (I'm running out of USB sockets)?

I have one, seems good to me for the price!

and get a usb hub. Going controller midi out-> midi in does add a tiny bit of latency to the midi signal.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.
