New RME Multiface and Carbus Drivers

Yes, that's the one. Just to let you guys know that at 64 samples and 32 samples, there are pops and crackles, but it's still usable. I would feel totally safe with 128 samples (3ms) in a live situation though. When producing, I'm still keeping it at 256, except for really critical situations where I need immediate response or monitoring.

This is great stuff.

Prolly gonna order the Duel adapter this week while they're $99 instead of $119.

Now the ultimate question: will my old Multiface and my new FF400 play nice together on my MBPro? That would be the sh!!!t. I use 16 outputs (off 2 Macs, currently) for outside the box dub mixing.

find out how to sync the two...you might need to run a wordclock or spdif sync between the cards so there's no jitter errors.

After some testing, I'm sad to report that even at 256 samples, there is some pops and crackles. I'm not sure if it's the driver or the new lappie with Core2Duo. I know I can do more, and add more plugs, but I can't get as low a latency as before. I have to go up to 512 samples, which is about 12ms latency, and still somewhat acceptable.

Be warned that I am not able to go back to the older firmware. I wish I could test it and see if the newer firmware is to blame for the pops and crackles, but I can't say for sure. I've emailed RME support to see if there's a solution. I'll report back.

WARNING - DON'T DO THIS UPGRADE.

Writing the new flash failed, causing my card to completely DIE. I've sent an email to Synthax to get support, but I doubt I'll hear back until Monday.

Firmware update failed on my FF400 as well, but I was able to restore the previous version.

Yes, I may have shouted too soon...

The situation as of now is that because I have the older style cardbus, I do not have the Safe BIOS feature, which allows one to boot the card even if a flash update fails. Since my card did not, I'll probably have to send it to the factory for fixing. If DOA, then I'll have to get a new card. So much for the $300

I'll keep you guys posted.

Regardless of what happens with me, keep in mind that performance with the new firmware and drivers may not be as good as previous. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

The old card is better because you put it in and forget about it. The new one sticks out so it is not safe to leave it if you move somewhere with your laptop.
BTW. I dont care much about the RME myths- when it worked it was great but I sold mine because of a weird problem with Live (not with any other software) that nobody could find out what it was. RME support was hopeless. I didn't see any point in continuing "what could it be".
That is my policy with hardware +software , It either works or not. I give it a try but then rather loose money then time and nerves. So I Ebay shite that gives problems and hope for getting something that works. Meanwhile don't buy anything without option of testing it properly first.

I would install the new drivers. but I guess for now, I'll keep it 2.82 in my old flat cardbus - If it's working, don't mess with it, I learned that the hard way.

If someone has more news about performance or bugs, please let us know.

I was running 2.93 and firmware 15 for about a year, no issues. It's only the latest one that has problems.

do you have to install the rev 15 firmware in order to have the 2.94 driver update?

I believe you do. But if you have the newer card, with fat stub sticking out and the regular firewire 6-pin port, then it has BIOS Safe, meaning you won't be in my shoes. You should be just fine to go at least to that firmware and driver set. But don't go to v.3

In that case, if you do the firmware upgrade, DO NOT REMOVE the card until the firmware says SUCCESS. If it fails, just keep trying till it says Success. Otherwise, you'll be fucked, like I am now.
