remote (zero) sl: plugin automap vs. ableton automap

Post by tranqui » Thu Mar 22, 2007 2:38 pm

hi guys,

I hope I'm not starting a double thread here. if I do - please close this one and redirect me to the proper one, I wasn't able to find it while searching.

I've got a remote zero sl hooked up to live 6.0.5. - I installed the new 3.0 firmware yesterday, hoping it would finally enable me to do things that were not possible with the old automap; namely, to adapt the automap parameters to my needs. VSTs like massive or glitch have dozens of parameters and it's a real pain in the ass to work them using ableton automap.

I've got plugin automap to work (e.g. with "glitch"), it works nicely. but! how the hell do I configure this so I can work the plugin parameters AND the mixer controls simulatenously? in order to control the plugins, I have to switch to template 38 - in order to control the mixer, I have to switch back to template 40. there HAS to be a way to make this work on ONE template, I think I'm just being awfully stupid here. so if anyone would care to enlighten me on how to do this, I'd really appreciate it.

what I'm trying to achieve is to jump between scenes, fade volumes of selected tracks, all the while twisting knobs and changing parameters of the selected plugin. it would be superb if I could also map a knob to skip between plugins, since you can only control one plugin at a time using plugin automap.

I hope my explanation was not too confusing... thanks for taking the time to read all this.

methinks you are going to have to write your own, that plugin automaps on the left side, but leaves the mixer as just the mixer.

is this possible using the editor? assigning usb channels to parts of the controller? I'll look into that, thanks.

definately possible, I should just go try it to let you know, but it may be as complicated as reassigning each of the plugin automaps to instead do mixer functions on the right side.

thanks, I'm working my way through the editor now.

it might be a lot of work... but I guess you can't expect things to be that easy, and it's okay this way ;)

I downloaded a template from the Novation website that automaps the plugins on the left side of the RemoteSL while the right side with the sliders controls the mixer. And it maps the pads to the impulse cells since the original template 40 did not. Now, for some reason, template 38 is all screwed up and doesn't automap plugins worth jack, all of my encoders only change the values from 0 to 1 on every plugin, but it doesn't really matter because I can use template 40 for everything now. This is the link to download the template:

No need to reassign anything! This has made life a hell of a lot easier.

sparklepuff, you can also edit the drumpads and assign them to note values C3-C4. This will make them act as drum pads in impulse and it's the same as the update does, but you save the trouble of updating the whole template.

It's quite easy to do it by hand anyway, the SL menus are some of the best i've ever seen
