Have to keep two copies of slow/fast tracks?

Post by robbmasters » Mon Jun 14, 2004 10:45 am

I was warping a track last night - it's essentially 95 bpm but has a bit of a double time feel that means it would mix in well with drum and bass tracks.

However, if I warp it at 95bpm and then play it back with a drum and bass track at 180bpm it'll play at double speed.

Similarly if I warp it at 190bpm, then mix it in with something at 100bpm, it'll play back at half speed.

And it seems that once a track is warped the ":2" and "*2" buttons have no effect.

So given that I may want to mix this track in with 100bpm tracks or 180bpm tracks, and I can't simply treat all my tracks at around 100bpm as tracks at around 200 bpm (as sometimes I'll want start at around 100bpm and build up to around 180 bpm) do I have to keep two WAVs of this file - one warped at 95bpm and one at 190bpm? Or is there another way...

More accurately, the *2 & :2 buttons fail to work when you've got more than one warp marker.

If you render out a retempo version of your multiple warp marker track, then run it in warp mode but with a single warp marker determining the tempo, then might you be able to use the double/half buttons?

I've had problems getting the *2 :2 buttons to work even when a loop isn't warped... since version 2.0 I've had a hard time predicting when it will and will not work... I probably need to read the manual again :)

Cheers Steve. That sounds promising...

Just a quick update: Steve's idea worked nicely. But if you're trying this yourself, save the clip with the faster tempo and use ":2" - because if you save it with the slower tempo and use "*2" you end up with only half of your track between the loop markers (as the same number of bars is now only half of the song).
