Streamlining OSX installation
Right. Removed excess languages. Now what.
Really trying to save space. Anything else that I can get rid of?
Best,
AB

Keeping the Apple loops because they might come in handy as I plan to add Logic in the near future.
Guess I will just get rid of the printer drivers. Can always add what I need at a later time.
But more responses would be nice as I try to get this up and running.
Thanks,
AB

Thanks sqook, that is exactly what I am talking about. I already ran monolingual to get rid of languages.
But, I just did a full install which was probably stupid, but now I want to free up disk space, and am looking for tips as to what I can and cannot get rid of.
Like, the 1.73 gigs of printer drivers!!! Can I just delete the whole folder under Library/printers? Or do I need to retain the folder, and can delete everything within?
And the demos? Where would they be, and how can I get rid of them. These are the questions that I am asking and would love the answers as I am a relative noob to OSX.
Thanks,
AB

You know, if you're really keen on trying to free up some disk space, I'd just reinstall if I were you. It's not like you have much to loose at this point..anti-banausic wrote:But, I just did a full install which was probably stupid, but now I want to free up disk space, and am looking for tips as to what I can and cannot get rid of.
I can't say for sure, as I only avoid this during installation. I have a feeling that it probably wouldn't screw anything up. If you really want to test this, you could make a zipfile of this folder, trash it, and then see if everything still is sane... assuming that it is, you could just delete the zipfile later on.Like, the 1.73 gigs of printer drivers!!! This is all the stuff that's installed in the "Applications" folder. You can just drag the ones you don't want to the trash, and that will basically uninstall it. For some apps (like Garageband), the actual bulk of their data is buried away in /Library, but you already mentioned you wanted to keep around. For apps like the ms office demos, I would assume that there is external data outside of the program bundle, but since I don't install these, I couldn't tell you where they are kept. And the demos? Where would they be, and how can I get rid of them. These are the questions that I am asking and would love the answers as I am a relative noob to OSX.
Languages, printer drives, and the freebie test apps are the usual suspects.

when you install osx, customize your installation and unselect all the printer
drivers, you will save yourself just over 1 GB.
