Post by ct43 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 7:46 pm

Hello there fellow Ableton crew :)

I was wondering if you could help me out with some info... im going to be setting up a web site providing patches for the built in Live instruments & I wanted to know what people where looking for in thier sounds, this will obviously help me make the right stuff and hopefully provide you with some decent sounds to use in Live as well! Everyone that answers I promise to send you a free bank of sounds (via PM) before the site goes online.

Thanks a lot guys and I hope I can make some stuff that you will all want to use!

Carl.

Fuck I didn't know there was gonna be a quiz today, anyone got an extra #2 pencil? I think the clock's slow, I don't feel tardy...

1 b
Just to get the preset import done quickly.

It's all about making macros that are effective, as in the latest Cov Ops Operator racks.

6 b
but both are groovy, encourage me to use Sampler for drums

7 a
Paypal sucks

8 c
Just make it funky. If I can learn from a producer by looking at his patches, that'd be GREAT, otherwise I just want them to sound good.

Clips are good too.

12 b

Good macros go a long way to getting legs out of a patch.

CLEAR instructions will help a lot. The new file management is odd, you WILL get users asking for help no matter how easy the install is.

Freebies generate business.

Don't forget just straight up FX racks too.

Making racks is not really a problem. Its naming 8 macro's for hundreds of racks thats doing my head in.
And keeping an eye on how many parts of my racks can be found in screenshots of future products of the other rack making dudes.
You know what they say about imitation and flattery.

Anyway, the really insane racks are to be unleashed very soon.
As this quizz suggests.. Not a day too soon :)
Some of that stuff has been in the making since 2004-2005.
Other things are still being polished as we speak.

The main things is... naming the macro's.
Apple + R, type name and click on next parameter.
Apple + R, type name and click on next parameter.
Apple + R, type name and click on next parameter.
Apple + R, type name and click on next parameter.
.....

My first child is likely to be named Dub Bass the 8th.

I thought that's what you had Machinate around for? ;)

BTW I've made stuff with your clips that I thought would be cool to share with the forum in midi form, is it pretty much not cool to post .als sets with your devices them? I never have.

Actually. I'm looking into this.

We all know that a dedicated site for racks doesn't do it.
Yet the stickie isn't cutting it either..

You cant start an online library without content.
And thats not really an issue for the CovOps, because content is something we have lots off.

We don't release a pack every month, firstly because both Andreas and I are busy people. Secondly, we dont just make romplers.
Its easy to sample a synth. But getting the most out of the samples is what we pride ourselves upon.
Same goes for all of the Live devices. Those puppies have been massacred :D

Anyway. I'm looking into a user area for users of Covert Operators stuff, just for the very reason you mentioned.
I've been getting submissions and tweaks of Covert Operator projects i even hardly remember.
They will have to go online some day ;-)

Which empty space would that be?

“It is the nature of the ego to take, and the nature of the spirit to share.”

You need a big shield if you're kicking ass anyway :D

What kind of music do you make most of the time?
- IDM (terrible genre name, but you get it)

5 b
Would you like built in Ableton FX chains included in your patches?
- Rather see them as separate racks..

6 b

7 b

8 b
Would you like the opportunity to buy banks of patches from well-known producers?
- No.. never..
No offense, but I really dislike these kind of things..
Marketing-wise it's probably a smart thing, but, well, you know..

9 a

10 b
Would you like to buy patches for other VST instruments on the same site?
- Keeping it strictly Ableton sharpens your profile..

11 a
Would you like to hear demo songs made with the patches?
As previews to what the patches sound like, yes..

12 a

13
Any other comments / things you want / dont want in your patches?
- As there is too much four-to-the-floor orientated stuff available already I would like to see some more 'alternative' dedication as well..
