Should play position jump when adjusting loop & start?

No the orange dot is the relationship between the current play position and ermm.... I don't know how to explain it....

What I am talking about is this: When you move the loop braces or the start marker, immediately the play position jumps.

Especially for moving the loop this doesn't make much sense. It kinda makes sense for the start marker, if it would have been where you just moved it to, the play position would be somewhere else, so that's where it immediately jumps to.

Moving the loop without the play position jumping would be less annoying, and it would have some applications for setting loop points live, and DJing.

By the way, I notice that the start position (not the loop start, the clip start) moves when you move either end of the loop too. I assume this is directly related? I'd rather it didn't do that either. If I want to move the start position, I'll move the start position! I don't want Live doing it for me!

Edit: After all, if you want to move the play head around in a glitchy way, youcan map the nudge/scrub controls to MIDI knobs. Whereas if you want to cha nge loop points smoothly, you're scuppered...

I actually find this useful sometimes. (oh dear bring on the flames)

When DJing with Live and I miss the sweet cue point in the playing songs outro. eg: I'm about to bring in a new track and I realise that I should have hit start on the new clip 8 bars earlier, I simply change the start point of the new track from 1 1 1 to 8 1 1. Simple. It's a feature of Ableton Live that allows you to "go back in time". Also, by moving the start point backwards, the reverse is possible.

Of course there's been situations when I've also found this feature annoying (usually when using Live as a DAW) so on balance I think I'd prefer the option to leave this functionality in place.

Furthermore and I'm moving off topic somewhat here, but I feel that the level of control available for DJs in Live needs an overhaul. (I'm thinking Live looping, Cue points and so on) I know that having multiple pre-prepared clips is a usually the way to go but not so good when you need to make changes on-the-fly.

Ah, but you could always just nudge (or scrub) back 8 bars.

Or, supposing you really wanted to loop bars 201 to 208, but it's now bar 209, you could loop 202 to 209, then adjust this to 201 to 208 once it's looping.

I can see why you could find the current method useful. But I think there are other ways to achieve those effects.

However, there doesn't seem to be a (straightforward) way to avoid those effects...
