What is the best multi channel firewire mixer under $400?... and please don't recommend spending more.

For $400, your only option is the Alesis Multimix Firewire 12 channel. (audiomidi.com has them on sale) Otherwise, the 8 channel.
Most firewire mixers are in the $500-$1000 range.
