MIDI? Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 & Live

Post by Plastic Hassle » Thu Mar 29, 2007 10:07 am

Anyone got one of these linked to Live? How did you do it? I can't get them to speak to each other. Live recognizes the MIDI input and output (E-MU XMidi 1X1) but nothing happens when I activate MIDI Map Mode and play with the 309. Is there a simple way to do this? I've read and followed the Routing section in the Manual but no joy.

are you sure your rave-o-lution is sending out all midi message.

I mean, when you move a knob, live little light is not blinking right ?

I don't own one so i'm purely theoric here, but most of the time its a midi settings you need to activate to get the midi out to work .

Refer to the manual in that specific case

Edit : There is a full section on the manual on how to connect the machine to a midi sequencer. This parameter is prolly the key

edit system/midi
2 local : on/off

Took me 2.5 seconds to find it on google :P

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I read the manual and done edit system/midi 2 local : on/off but nothing happened. This is my first MIDI device besides an Edirol PCR 1, which I only use as an audio interface and controller keys because the knobs don't work properly. I guess I'm going to have plough through a bunch of info and learn all about MIDI. Goodbye weekend...
I used to play guitar and am starting to feel going computer has become the equivalent of getting the solering iron out every time you get a new pedal!

I hope you figure it out. Live and an external step sequencer totally kill. It's so freakin fun and interactive.

Cheers mate. The 309 sounds great on it's own and is pretty easy to use but I'm hoping to use it as a controller for Operator as well. Check it out, looks ideal.

I have a 309 and did at one point set it up together with Live, although I don't use it much with Live at the moment.

There's really nothing special needed to get this to work.

Make sure you enable the midi-out port for your interface in preferences in Live.

Make sure you have put the 309 in external or in internal/external midi modus. Was there a midi-offset also in the meny? I think there is a meny that determines what channel is the first.

Check you haven't muted all the instruments on the 309.

Send midi from Live on the correct midi-channel - remember - one channel for every instrument.

There will be sound.
