Battery in Live... any tricks?

Post by continuous » Mon Apr 02, 2007 2:28 am

Hello All,

Are there any tricks to programming Battery in Live's piano view.

Damn I wish that I could see the sample names in the piano roll the way I can with impulse!

cheers

it is good to use live's random midi plug to randomize the cells in battery.
they are (sometimes) relative to octave so a C1 bd will be a different C2 bd.
It's fun.

If you're using Battery 3, make sure that you have the option to warn before deleting cells turned on in it. I noticed tht once you click in B3's plug in window, it 'grabs' the delete key. So if you go to delete a midi note, Battery thinks you're trying to delete one of it's cells. Stupid bug, so turn on the preference above to make sure you don't accidentally delete a B3 cell!

I have not idea how to link to a thread but the post called

"Live 6 Question: Creating customized names in piano roll?"

by gregoreck
from sept '06

Has a possible workaround for the sample name thing using racks. I'm still on Live 5 and Battery 2 but when I upgrade to 6 or 7 I hope to give it a try.

Nice! All these suggestions are great... you kids rule.

Not on Battery 3 yet but will be soon with Komplete4 upgrade... thanks Tarekith. I'm hearing lotsa good things about 3. I love the sound of Battery from version 1 and sometimes its a bit more satisfying than impulse.

Custom naming in piano roll could be just it... will def check into this! After setting up the sample names I could save as a Live clip.

cheers

I disagree. i think version 3 really solidified it as the king. Some very useful changes.

I *thought* I was cool with Bat3, but it turns out I'm not. Disapointing, but I'm staying optimistic for an update. They gotta at least allow me to be able to save the mapping of empty cells; the dummy clip work-around isn't cutting it anymore. If they don't fix that, I'm uninstalling it.

Well, you just load a muted dummy clip in the cell, then save it mapped like that. Works a treat, but...

You have to delete the dummy clip before adding an actual drum hit (or else they'll layer and you'll only see the dummy clip in the cell), and you also have to make sure to re-load the dummy clip into any cell you have empty before closing down your project.

This system works, but I've gotten sick of it. Needless hassle, I want this issue fixed!

thats not true. battery 3 is mac intel compatible.. i use it with v-drums and it's dope. synthetic drums 2, built in sounds, loop feature, round robin cell, random trigger. shit. SHIT SHIIIIIIT! battery 3 is hater-proof.

sure, it has a couple problems. but some of my knobs on my moog are scratchy and i still play it. i just use different knobs if i dont want a scratchy sound.

dont get me wrong tho, i'm not a huge fan of NI. and kore is jokey joke town.
