Its funny. The requesters all focus their energy during a period when it matters the least.Johnisfaster wrote:why is everyone talking about new features soooo much right now? is it about the time when they announce the new version or something?
If Ableton still doesn't know almost every detail about how Live 7 is going to be by now.... Then they're in bad shape.
I'm of the impression that they already knew what 7 is going to be when some of us visited them in december '06. They didn't have any interest in feature suggestions. They discouraged requests...
Asking/demanding your 10 most wanted features now, has about as much use as posting your prognostik for the next soccer world cup.
Unless you're really talking about Live 8.
But that'll never happen I guess. You cant demand things for live 8 if you still did not have the chance to complain about whats wrong with Live 7
and in the wrong forum no less. feature wishes are for the 'feature wishlist' forum. this is the 'general' forum. please limit your posts to things that have to do with generals...like george s patton, idi amin, or douglas macarthur.hoffman2k wrote: Asking/demanding your 10 most wanted features now, has about as much use as posting your prognostik for the next soccer world cup.

The live 7 thread is almost an exact replica of the one posted on 31 july '06

Just make a thread named "Live 7" and watch it spin into a "10 most wanted" list
I dread the day when Live becomes EXACTLY like every other DAW and i (gulp) pass on the update.
YES there are improvements that would make certain things easier.....multiple automation lines, track folders.......yada..yada,....yada
But then i think back to my first time F'ing around with the demo of Live 4(yeah i got in the game late) and thinking of ALL the possibilities.
I've had Pro Tools( ) and now i'm using Digital Performer(:P ) for major track count projects and typical DAW features.
I use Live for what it does BEST and that is not being like EVERY OTHER DAW!

shame, thats what they had planned, #1 on the list reads "make live like every other DAW"
also coincidentally exactly what everyone has been asking for "please make it the same as every other DAW" is what I read every day.
what is 'every other DAW' like anyway?
I do wonder which are the features which make a DAW "like every other" and which ones are just good old "not like every other DAW" features.
folder tracks, multi-automation, time sig changes, x-fades, are not "like every other DAW" I get that now.
But what the hell do these other DAWs have which is so shit?
what are the "like every other DAW" features to be avoided and what are the things which make people think Live is heading in this mysterious path.

Basically when Live was started it was geared toward "Live" Performance....ergo session view. When i read so many people wanting things that mostly benefit arrange view(track folders, multiple automation views) and pretty much anything else that someone playing a Live show wouldn't/shouldn't be doing on stage, THAT'S what i consider "Like every other DAW".
Hell if i want to bore a crowd of people by adjusting automation and digging through several track folders worth of takes and other bullshit i'd just have people over to the house and bore the fuck out of'em Proper like..........
I'm just saying there are tons of other options for the types of request's folks are dying for...AND most of the options out there are refined as fuck.Whereas having the abes incorporate the same features as other daws offer will eventually take away from the very reason we all started using there software in the first place....
I need more coffee....

I don't think this particular request is to "keep up with the jones'". Folder tracks would be hugely beneficial to live specifically because of the session screen. You mainly want to see your clips and have things organized visually, and folder tracks would really help to hide tracks that are purely audio and show the main tracks with the midi clip for example.Johnisfaster wrote:it bums me out when people insist live has everything that "standard daws" have
lives going to eventually suck balls because they are gonna spend all their time trying to keep up with the jones'
Not only folder tracks, but also the option to hide tracks would be nice.
I also thought it would be cool if individual tracks could have multiple audio streams going on, like if racks could take multiple inputs. For example, you've got your drum machine with eight outs, which feed into a rack. then you've got your eight separate audio channels in the rack for different effects per drum. Wouldn't be that much of a leap I don't think. We already do multiple layers in racks, but right now you have to have the sources in the racks or all devices process the source. It would be cool to be able to go from a multi-out device to a rack. Very Cool actually.
But number one is folder tracks! My main wish for Live.

whereas someone on a mac (like me) has very few options to get these daw features. I can use ableton or logic, thats about it. and personally I find logic to be as unintuitive as software gets.4ace wrote:I'm just saying there are tons of other options for the types of request's folks are dying for
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
OK, what if the folder track had master stop and play controls in session view. It would then function like a sub scene for those tracks. Or perhaps some kind of dummy clip for the grouped folders for automation of the volume and group effects would be even more useful.
That would make it an incredibly useful live tool as well as a standard DAW function and everyone’s a winner.
It wouldn't even need to clutter the GUI, just scale it down til only the master clip is visable.
I'm sure there's a lot of "like every other DAW" features that if done with a bit of thought and imagination could wipe the floor with the opposition and make ableton even more intuitive and powerful as a live program.

Here's an example of why it's different.4ace wrote: I'm just saying there are tons of other options for the types of request's folks are dying for...AND most of the options out there are refined as fuck.Whereas having the abes incorporate the same features as other daws offer will eventually take away from the very reason we all started using there software in the first place....
:
The main thing I would like them to add are Session 'meta clips' , which are made of many little clips, but can be played as if they are one clip (in session).
If you select a chunk of clips in arrange and drag them it into session it would become one tidy clip, EG a chopped up breakbeat or a series of edited vocals with different warp modes.
That is the sort of modification that would be useful in arranging songs or in performing live.
Other DAWs may have something similar, but it doesn't have the same power as it would in Live, because in Live I could trigger 'meta clips' at any time. The reason I ask for specific arrangement things is most often to tie in the arrangement view to session. If arrangement could 'go in' session, wouldn't that make session more powerful?
it bums me out when people insist live has everything that "standard daws" have
O-H C-O-M-E O-N ! ! ! Stop with the wanking guys!shame, thats what they had planned, #1 on the list reads "make live like every other DAW"
If it is so important to stop the natural enhancement on program ergonomics then keep on using your Live 2.1 and live on the stone age...
Theres actually a small point here, but my point of frustration is merely 'bout the fact that we gonna be waiting for the improvements for a long time still... doh...Its funny. The requesters all focus their energy during a period when it matters the least.
Indeed, it's not a case following other DAWs, but including the features that people would find useful and finding a way of incorporating them into live in an easy to use and inspiring way.
I think, if the abes put some thought into it they could make folder tracks as inspiring for audio files as racks are for effects.
They could be used for multiple takes of recorded audio, giving people the cross fades and advanced editing facilities everyone seems keen on.
Perhaps they could form the basis of a kind of slicer tool, or otherwise make it easier to chop up and rearrange samples. Allowing effects and parrameters to be altered in real time for different slices. Maybe the positions of different slices in the master loop could be mapped to midi parameters for live manipulation.
As angstrom said, they could be used to create a meta clip for moving to session view or between sets.
They could could be used to launch and control clips on serveral tracks at once including master effects.. In a live situation.
They could simplify routing between tracks, allowing instruments and effects on both individual tracks and the group master.
Maybe there could be a way to have either individual or combined warp settings for samples in the folder. Allowing all sorts of crazed slicing and warping combinations.
Could be great.
Certainly better than another add on instrument or more effects we could get elsewhere.

this is it
"I think, if the abes put some thought into it they could make folder tracks as inspiring for audio files as racks are for effects."
this is my wishlist, i post once, but seems no response,
if they can rack effects, why cant they rack track?
two audioclip racks is like having two CDJ or tables,
but the best part is you can tweak the synth freq
i think they have thought about it but worried if its going to kill our computer
