A pre-configured solution would defeat the whole purpose!

I'm not worried about *anything* here. I have a remarkably useful control surface right NOW! It works, it's fun, it's fully tweakable etc etc. My max-patches thank me for it, and so does my live performance!
This whole discussion about waiting reminds me a lot of the whole "g5 laptop" debacle. While the obstinate were waiting and waiting and waiting others were getting years of great performance out of existing solutions, rather than clicking "refresh" on apple.com.
I know for a FACT that the Lemur development IS getting a lot of attention right now, I was right there with JazzMutant at MusikMesse '07.
I also know that anyone who has the means to get on the boat with a Lemur right now, but decides to:
wait around for multi-touch laptops
PLUS wait around for multi-touch OSes
PLUS wait around for multi-touch versions of software such as MaxMSP
- will be eating my dust for the next very loooong time.
alas, this discussion will keep popping up from now on until all those things come true, quite possibly a fair few years from now. Until then I think I'll just reiterate.
Best,
Andreas.

wtf are you talking about. you don't need a special OS or a special version of a piece of software for multi-touch to work.. all you need are the touch screens and maybe an app that runs in the background to receive more than one message at a time. and after that is (if you are speaking specifically of maxmsp) to build your own interfaces that work better with your fingers than with a mouse...Machinate wrote: wait around for multi-touch laptops

there is no PLUS this and PLUS that which you imply will take years upon years of research and development to get released to the public. yea maybe some tweaks for the OS to make its UI more user friendly......
but thats cool. cuz im eating your dust.
Software rely on the OS to receive messages from input device. If multitouch tablets were to become a generic input device for PCs, it would be necessary for the OS to be ready for multiple cursors instead of single cursor so that any application can take benefit.yourmom wrote:wtf are you talking about. you don't need a special OS or a special version of a piece of software for multi-touch to work

http://cpnmouse.sourceforge.net/ -- not the BEST example. just to show that its possible that it wouldn't take a major OS overhaul for a computer to recognize multiple inputs...yourmom wrote: an app that runs in the background to receive more than one message at a time.
since you kind involve with jazzmutant i would like to know one thing..did you see any attention from distributors? thats very important ...more distributors outlets could open new markets for jazzmutant. ...new retailers and technical support from new distributors and repair services could imporved jazzmutant to be standard product..Machinate wrote:
