Controlling track volume via CC7

Post by JSchur » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:32 pm

Hi

New to Live and somewhat confused by Continuous Controller handling during recording. In Digital Performer, the track volume inputs automatically respond to CC7. that is, when you record into a track and implement a volume/CC7 message from an external device, the data is recorded into the track for later automation. The only way I've found to automate volume in Live 6 is to assign CC7 to a slider in the track via Midi Edit. The problem with doing it this way is that when I record into a second track, also with CC7 assigned to the volume slider, the first track still responds to external control, even though the track is no longer record enabled. I have to go back to Midi Edit and erase the CC7 assignment in the previous track(s)

Regards

Live is working that way, there is some midi devices supported for auto assign
( see midi pref menu for complete list) but if you are stuck with a device where you can use only one knob or fader for assign to a track volume you will be forced to delete other assignements and make a new one on the params you want to record.

What controller do you own ?

I generally use the mod wheel—set to send CC7, on my Fater Studio 900 to enter volume data while I'm recording. I also have an Oxygen 8... I suppose I can assign the knobs separately to tracks. Really prefer a wheel or slider... maybe I'll invest in something with multiple sliders. Any suggestions?

Thanks and Regards
