I'm very interested in these types of controllers so if you've got one or have tried some please post your experiences for the rest of us, including those of you using a standard mixer with Live, thanks hope this thread is helpful for all of us.

this link is to an interesting discussion about djing with Live and traktor, it's
not exactly regarding the controllers but a guy name phil did post some very good info several times in the thread that should be of interest, also the local hero on the board hobbes seems to be in the know of traktors next upgrade being to compete with Live. in his words Ni know very well what about Live that people love and desire and apparently that's there focus, so it looks like it's going to be a nice recent future for software all around do to Live and especialy Live-4 pushing the hell out of the envelope
alot of people seem to feel like Live and traktor go together very well too, might be a combo worth checkin out methinks.

I'm using a UC-33 and a modified version of FingaMIDI... two banks on the uc-33, one with faders/send 1 and 2 and master effects tweaks (delay, eq) the other with the same bank of faders and 3 band eq for each channel. I use fingamidi to control the auto filter on the master, (I hacked out the Z axis mapping so that it wouldn't confuse live as much) Everything (3 laptops, RS7k, Repeater) is synced to a Qy100 via a motu mtp. i cant stress enough how much syncing to something OTHER than the computer has helped. If you have to work with ANY external hardware that needs midi sync try it... everything ive got holds a much tighter sync with less flutter when im not using the computer as the master.

The UC33 hasnt let me down yet and seems to work really well, I'm a little bit concerned about the knobs though, when i get in there and start tweaking them alot i feel like im gonna break one off someday.. Its definatly nice having an extra midi IN/OUT... I would imagine that the X-Session is very similar to my uc33, looks the same w/one less row of knobs and no faders.

good post, hey anybody else out there, and did anyone check the link, what did you think?
don't be shy folks, I don't know whether to go for the x-session, the micromodul dj1, or a rig a regular dj mixer.

I've been using the X Session for a little more then a month....so far, so good. I paid $120 U.S. and it's about as good a quality as I would expect. It doesn't feel like the fader or knobs are going to break but I could see where they might break down after a couple of years.
Overall I enjoy it. The cross fader is a great feature that I just haven't seen on anyother controllers at this cost. It's completely USB powered which is great to take is anywhere. I have it set up so that I'm controlling the faders and launching scenes on one preset, controlling the sends on another preset and 2 more presets to controll effect parameters with the knobs and it's been very enjoyable since I figured out how to program it (it doesn't come with very detailed instructions so I had to figure out a lot of that myself)

Running it with Live 3.0 , Powerbook 1 ghz, 1 gig ram, 10.3.2

Yeah, got an X-Session a few weeks ago. It's great - and it's a cinch to program with the free Enigma software. You can have 10 presets, so theoretically you could control up to 160 parameters with the 16 knobs. Similar for the 10 buttons (and even the cross fader). Cost me £75. Using it on a PIII 1GHz, 512MB, 4200rpm (I know!) laptop.

Now just need to that Indigio DJ that I promised myself...
