Live 5 vs. Live 6

Post by Shane Little » Fri Apr 06, 2007 2:00 pm

What are the differences? Is it worth snagging the upgrade? I have 5.2.2.
Spanks a lot!

6 is a big improvement, specialy for those running a multi core processor (not me :(). A word of advice, uninstall Live 5 COMPLETLY before installing 6. I have also noticed issues with certain features when using live 5 sets in 6!

Overall IMO you should stick with 5 if money is tight, 5 is still powerful and VERY stable. But if you have a multi core processer and funds permit, go for it!!

OK, so when I go for the upgrade, uninstall first, then download 6?

there is the fact that 7 will be announced eventually and maybe you could just skip 6 instead of upgrading twice in 6 months. though I don't know when it would be released I'm just throwing it out there.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Live 6 is great. If you have dual processors, do it! The racks feature is also cool for layering stuff quick and easy.

Yes, i agree. I first used Live 2....it was a Lite version bundled with Pro Tool 6. I have since upgraded to Pro Tools 7 and have a Full version of 6. My point being that Ableton are VERY quick to update with major releases coming thick and fast (4 major updates in 3 years-ish).

If you have been patient enough to wait this long before considering to update, why not wait till the end of the year. As soon as a major update is Imminent Ableton will raise as much interest as they can and even sell you Live 6 with a free upgrade to 7 when it is ready.

All that said....you could wait forever for that NEXT release, same with computers....as soon as you take the plunge you will be out of date within a few months!!!! If what you have now does the job, then don't give into temptation. I am typing this on a PowerBook G4 which is over 3 years old, but it still does the job (no matter how good those MacBooks look)....If it aint broke don't fix it!!
