firewire 410 should i buy one

on the verge of buying a maudio 410
but i read through some posts now im not sure what to do
i dont have a big budget .

stay away from those things they are seriously bad for your mental well being!
the drivers are useless, and so is maudio tech support.
if u have a tight budget, i havent tried one, but i hear good things of presonus? http://www.presonus.com/

Only if you can try before you buy.

Some people have them, use them, love them. Others have had a bad experience with them. This is pretty much the same for other audio cards too, including Presonus. Make sure the store you buy from has a good exchange policy.

They likely work fine for most people, but I've heard too many horror stories of them not working to chance it.

I had a 410 that constantly "disappeared" for a few seconds or would just quit working all together.

Took it back and bought a Presonus Firebox, haven't had any problems since. Solid little piece of equipment.

I've been using one since they first came out 3 and a bit years ago and I have never had any problems which were it's afault (only the fault of my dodgy old windows laptop).

I've used it for studio stuff, mobile recording and Live and it's always been fine.

Just thought I'd give a vote of confidence as many ppl seem to complain about these units.

The Mackie Onyx Satellite is cheaper and has more ins/outs!

i've had one for a few years and its works but its pretty dodgy... i don't recommend it!

Got the 410 a couple of years ago and I can certainly recommend it. Have never had any bad experiences with the drivers. Works great on both PC and Mac. The XLR inputs on the front are however made of plastic. If you intend to use it "rough", opt for a sturdier box with metal jacks.

I hated mine. It was so sketchy. Returned it and paid a little more for a MOTU Ultralite. Didn't really want to spend the extra $$, but I'm glad I did.

the only thing with the Mackie Onyx Satellite is the price drop may mean it will be discontinued when they sell the stock they have.
its such a hard decision what to get with firewire everybody says something different wish i wasnt a newbie on firewire oh well i think i will just sit tight for a little while longer and see what happens.

if you wanna have sound, no. sold it quick and got a emu 1616m which does it all good.
