ok, i got the answer from rme:

[...]

At the moment, there is no plan for an Expresscard interface, but there
will be adapters (Expresscard-Cardbus) from other manufacturers in the
not-so-distant future.

[...]

in the meantime i have also found that pcmcia is still present on the new sony vaio. so my problem is solved.... i just can't go for a mac as i wanted... but it is still ok

Thanks 4am, Really appreciate it!

I hope they start trumpeting them loudly from the RME website the nano-second they come out!

Off to bookmark a permanent google search as well.

Of course, I have another question now, does this mean RME will need to write new drivers to handle the ExpressCard hardware?

Anyway,I guess since they are talking about it, it WILL be comatible, eventually. (August would be nice)

a shame.

Post by veggieryan » Thu Mar 08, 2007 5:04 pm

look people.
To set the record straight.
It doesnt matter if there is an express card to cardbus adapter for the macbooks.
The PROBLEM is that RME will NOT write a driver for the HDSP cardbus or PCI cards for INTEL MACS.
This is total sh@#$
Their excuse is that there is no cardbus or pci interface on the new intel macs.

now with this adapter, there kind of is... so..

I SUGGEST WE ALL GO AND POST ON THE RME NEWSGROUP FORUM LIKE CRAZY UNTIL THEY REALIZE THAT THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

Checking the RME forum, it seems that RME have supplied duel with an early Mactel driver to test....

Fingers crossed, it won't be long in coming. The current price of $99 for the adapter is a steal if it means i can use my multiface with my MBP.

And to think, i nealry sold it....

On the website, Duel say you can return the adapter within 30 days if your card doesn't work with it... nice.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!

Its so funny because before they always shrugged it off like they just weren't going to do a macintel driver for the HDSP. Big thanks to duel for giving them a swift kick in the .....

Big news. BIG NEWS. The rein of the multiface has only just begun.

The macbooks now have pro audio with true low latency and zero cpu load. No more firewire!!! Now I can get that new mac tablet! Bring on the multitouch!

peace yall.

Hey Benno, how the hell do you get to the RME Forum (on Macintel/Safari)?

Can you post a direct link or something? I go to http://www.rme-audio.com/english/info/newsgrp.htm and click on "-> To the RME Newsgroup" but Safari spits the dummy:

Safari can’t open “news://news.x-networks.de/rme-audio.forum” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “news:”.

Is there something I need to configure, or use a different app? Stoopid question, i know... :D

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers! Did so, and found out the following information.

1. RME Newsgroup posting:

-------------------------------
03/09/2007

Hello,

We have two news on our website:

- FUT 2.64 for the Mac users of the FF800 with TCO is now available (this version is identical to Windows 2.63, please don't get confused)

- The PPC driver 1.6c for the whole HDSP series (except MADI and AES-32), which is very stable and reliable, has been compiled for usage with x86 (Intel). This version can be used with MacBooks using an ExpressCard to CardBus adapter, or non-Macs with PCI slots running OS X, or PCIe to PCI expansion chassis. As you sure can imagine we can't guarantee anything for this driver. On the other hand it can't be that bad, as we are testing our upcoming PCIe cards with it...

Regards
Matthias Carstens
RME
------------------------------

2. On the RME site's news page:

http://www.rme-audio.com/english/info/news.htm

"03/09/2007 HDSP series driver for Mac OS x86 (Intel) released."

However, no mention of a UB 1.6c driver on their downloads page. It seems it's still the old PPC 1.6c driver there. I downloaded it to check and could find no mention of Intel compatibility, and all the dates are still from 2005.

So I guess the RME News has been updated faster than the RME download server.

So near and yet . . .

Stay tuned for the exciting conclusion...

Actually I'm already using mine for a SATA 2 320GB Seagate external HD hooked up to the macbook. What with My EXS24 sample Library, GURU and NI Komplete, a 100GB internal HD just doesn't cut it. THe eSATA HD is BLAZING fast, I think personally I can live with the 64 sample buffer the Fireface 800 has, and I'm happy with the set up. The Fireface 800 really only uses FW400 speed, the only reason to use 800 is if you were using twop or three FF800's together, and I'm not using it to track bands in stadiums or anything. :)

Seriously, if you're not needing three Firface 800's together, then the express card slot is much better used for eSATA sample HD's !

OK, the OSX Intel driver is up now.

Who's gonna be the first to try the Duel adapter? 2-3 weeks delivery, they reckon.

bloody hell...been searching for this news for a long time....my good ol powerbook 17 is just about at its max...need to upgrade to get some breathingspace on the cpu..:)

thanks to pitchblack on this one....youve done well my son.

has anyone received the units yet?

I am definately going to order one if its all good.

All in all, i think RME realised that they would loose a hell of a lot of business if they didnt get there lazy ass up and make something poeple wanted.

I must have emailed them 10 times about this and not once have they replied. So, it seems that the customer service is just totally shit....but thats most likely due to the fact that they never have to do anything coz the hardware they make is so good....

not a bad thing i guess....
