OT: Discmakers alternatives?

I'm looking for a short run but I don't want CDR media. I would prefer glass-mastered replication but I don't need 1000 CDs for $1000. Any alternatives that handle everything online (artwork, etc.) but allow me to send a master in the mail? Looking for sub-$500 pricing.

US/Canada Preferred. Thanks!

I shouldn't share, but here you go, all you'll ever need.
As many or as few as you need, pressed, not burned, you can buy your own for 2 bucks a pop as little or as much you need anytime. comes with a barcode and shrinkwrap, AND you can set a price above the cost of the disc, for anyone else to buy online however they like, and have it shipped to them. The service sends you a check for your profits every month. They even provide a clickable link to your discs page. Here's mine.

Kunaki duplicates discs. Duplication has made major strides over the last few years. Today mediocre duplication is superior to bad replication. And superior duplication is better than mediocre replication. Lastly, superior duplication is every bit as good as the best replication.

yeah, sorry guys, I actually knew the dup vs replicate faq from them, I was confused cause they're silverbacked and look replicated, I'll tell you though, I ran mine through my spectrum analyzer against the original 24 bit 48khz mixes, and I didn't see any real discrepency, there was a little roll off in the very upper frequencies, but I honestly might attribute this to the dither down to 16 44.1 for CD quality. Either way, it's a good cheap alternative to a larger run. And I really enjoy that someone in Austria can pick one up online and I don't have to pay postage. And I can pick up 20 at a time to sell at shows.

Oh, and earsmack, you're right about that quote, This quality is good for me at this stage and convieniece level, but that quote is a lot of horseshit.
At least theoreticly. And yeah, I had to borrow a windows machine to run their packaging software

My understanding is that duplicated vs replicated is not a matter of sound quality but more of compatibility. Replicated will (supposedly) play in 100% of CD players whereas with duplicated (CDR) media there is the chance that it won't play in some CD players (they say it will work in 99% of them, however since media and the methods used to burn are so good these days.)

I still like the ability to get a glass master though...lonely records 250 pressed deal is looking pretty good...but their website is crap...can they be trusted?

I have used CDman out of Canada for my last three replicated jobs, each 500. A lot of places can replicate and print, but they did a 100% quality job for a very low price, and were saintly patient with my amateur print files. They really know the print side as well as the replicate side.

If you are willing to pay somewhat more and want complete package and graphic design, and minimum 1000 qty, DiscMakers is not a bad place. I have never used Oasis since they seemed to not be flexible enough on their ordering for what I needed (e.g., print and CDs delivered separately in bulk) but Oasis is really trying to compete with DiscMakers and it might be worth bidding them against one another.

But for me I will definitely use CDman for my next one.
